I’m new to camping we decided to camp and go to Alton Towers. Ruehill is in a perfect location for that.
It was rainy when we arrived and it was much later than we anticipated but the owner welcomed us when she saw us there and directed us to where would be good for the weather etc. We didn’t read the booking email that said to keep in touch about arrival times and when you get there to call to say you’ve arrived.
The fields are set as adult only and family. Which is a great idea.
As I said the weather was not great so we had our pick of places and we chose to be beside the fire pit that had some trees as shelter and close to the toilet block too.
The toilet and shower blocks are very well maintained and there are some lovely touches. Like the soaps, benches for putting toiletries on, coin operated hairdryer, lots of mirrors and a usb plug point for charging devices. Also the smooth music playing keeps it from being eerie when you go in during the evening. The showers had good power and were lovely and warm. My husband said that the other male campers weren’t being particularly clean in the men’s toilet/shower block but that from one visit to the next someone had been in and cleaned. (*note to campers if you wouldn’t leave your house in that state don’t leave a shared bathroom like it!) so kudos to the owner but it’s a pity it gets in that state in the first place.
It was torrential rain the first night and the ground remained east to walk on, not muddy and drainage was tip top.
After a long and fun day at Alton Towers we went to the fish and chip shop recommended in the posters by the owner and we loved it.
We rented a campfire for in fire pit the second night as there were only light showers and then it was dry. You get everything to make a fire and it was so cosy.
The owner was welcoming and friendly and we would stay here again should we be in the area.
