The photos on here doesn't do the site any justice. There is just something about this site that can not be put into words.
This is not you average well organised camping site. It has nothing but yet it has everything. I will not recommend it for those that expect 5 star camping facilities. But if you enjoy the rustic experience where you will be woken up by a couple of hens in the morning, not be bothered about the "informal" (not usual campsite like) ablutions then this is the place for you.
At the site there are a lot to do and see. If you into geology you don't have to go anywhere, if you want to enjoy some quiet time, find the "fairy cove". If you want to look at the scenery, find the "boat". This place is what you make of it. Very relaxed atmosphere and easy going. Our 3 days felt like a months vacation.

Brendon has done a good job in making sure the basics are met. The rest is up to you to make it work.

I want to point out that you will need some insect repellent if you go on any of the nearby walks. But that is not a negative on the campsite.

WOW. What a lovely review. You got it! You got everything I was trying to achieve for my guests, whether camping, motorhoming or in-house.

It's meant to be rustic, homely, and hospitable. It's got all the basic needs catered for but in a way that doesn't detract too much from the near-to-nature experience and I do agree that it does have something else ... something I did not design. The property, setting and local area really do have a certain, indescribable something?

I'm so glad you got it, in every sense!

Many thanks for taking the trouble to describe the service and setting so well. If I had paid you or written it myself I couldn't be happier with such a wonderful description.

Best regards,
Brendan.
PS. We don't aim to have a typical 5* site. We're happy with keeping it simple, homely and natural.

10 day stay

(Family with young children, 1 review)   Confirmed

  • Date stayed: Jul 2013

  • Liked: good access to region
  • Disliked: on arrival did not have my booking on their system and was told "Pitchup.com" bookings were not linked into their Website. I fortunately had a hard copy of my booking and there wasn't an issue but not sure if I hadn't, what the outcome may have been.

site is immediately off the road which remained busy throughout the night and disturbed sleep every night

owner warns people openly, that his dog will steal unattended food (and this warning is on their web site... I didn't see this) but we also had a loss from the interior of our zipped up tent!!!

over a very busy weekend with a packed out site only one toilet was available for at least 50 people (normally 2 toilets/1 shower available, which I don't believe meets Health and Safety allowances?)
From the manager...

Hello Louise,
I'm sorry if you experienced and, that you only now let us know by this means, that you had a disappointing stay here. Had we known while you were here (and if you recall, I personally checked in with you almost every day to ask if everything was OK for you but you never mentioned any difficulty) we would have been pleased to re-located you to one of the more private pitches or found a way to compensated you for any inconvenience.

It is true that your booking alerted us to the non-alignment of the Pitch-up booking facility to our management system but as you also admit, this was not an issue for you. In any case we had new pitches available off the main campsite which were not allotted and not bookable through Pitch-up.

Perhaps the greatest contributor to your negative experience was that you arrived at the beginning of the busiest weekend of our whole year and at a time when we were experiencing a heatwave, so the main campsite did became unusually busy as the day progressed.

I am surprised but sincerely apologize if it was my wayward (and already convicted) doggie who has mastered the art of unzipping a "zipped-up" tent. Once again, I would also have been pleased to compensate you for any loss of food, even if by one of the other camper's doggies, had you made it known at the time. Perhaps the other campers were luckier than you since they heeded my warning to keep perishable goods in either a sealed box, the campers fridge or kitchen, or in their car.

Actually there were 40 campsite guests on the Saturday night and there were 3 toilets and 3 showers available but one of them did malfunctioned and it was put back into operation by 10am next morning, even though on a Sunday of a holiday weekend.

Sorry again, for all concerned, that you find reason to complain after the event as we would have been pleased to relocate or compensate you had we known at the time of your stay.

Best regards,
Brendan.
