Beautiful Scenery and very peaceful. Facilities very basic.

  • Liked: We liked the peaceful setting and the walking available in the woodlands and around the fishing lakes.

It was useful to have a water point next to each electric hook up point.

The showers were hot and free!
  • Disliked: Unfortunately there wasn't any bins provided either on the site or in the ladies toilets. There also wasn't any hand soap in the toilets and no washing up facilities on site.

The toilet block was basic and although fairly clean, the windows were dirty (bugs) and there appeared to be no lights in the shower cubicles at night.

Ideal for fishing

(Mature couple, 1 review)   Confirmed

  • Date stayed: Apr 2014

  • Liked: The close proximity of the fishing lakes to the caravan park. A gentle 2 minute stroll and you are there !
The site itself is in the early stages of being brought "up to scratch" the main thrust of the business having been towards the fishing facilities. That said, the toilets and showers were basic but clean and we'll maintained.
There is an on site Warden (Ken) who was extremely helpful.
    We shall be returning.

  • Disliked: Nothing. It does exactly what is says on the tin !

Nice campsite, nice location

(Group-mostly male, 1 review)

  • Date stayed: Jan 2014
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked: I liked the location of the campsite in particular, as it is tucked out of the way while still being easy to find. Plug sockets and water on each pitch meant we didn't have to go far to get fresh water or charge our phones. Shower wagon was surprisingly clean, despite heavy use from fishermen. Our pitch was situated in the far corner of the campsite below a tree, and was fairly wind-proof depending on which way it was blowing. Woods near the on-site fishing lakes made for a pleasant walk with the dogs, with lots of wildlife to see.
  • Disliked: Nearest shop is a garage along a mile of road with no footpath, but most things you need are provided by the site.

Fantastic facilities and fishing

(With friends, 1 review)

  • Liked: Beautiful area, we stayed for the fishing on Long lake which went extremely well, had plenty of doubles over the 24 hours we spent on the lake. Stayed for a week in the park, although we used our campervan for most stuff the shower block was well-kept and the showers were actually hot, which made a nice change from other campsites. Walked to the nearby pub over the fields which served amazing food, there are several pubs nearby but we didn't have time to visit them all. When we were cooking for ourselves we got some proper nice cuts of meat from the onsite butchers, and eggs from the nearby farmhouse were best I've ever had. Overall peaceful, quiet site with top quality fishing and pretty much everything you need for a good weekend away.

  • Disliked: No available rubbish bins on the campsite meant we had to take our rubbish down to the yard on our way out and use the bins there, we were told this is due to people on the lakes over-using them in the past and making a mess, which is a fair point.

Great site, fairly basic but includes essentials + nice location

(Young couple, 1 review)

  • Liked: Peaceful site, fairly small but good facilities, size of site meant everything was easy to find. Toilet block showers were quite clean and convenient to use, and electric and water hookups were on all the touring pitches. Site is just across from the angling lakes, we went for the fishing which was excellent. The Ship Inn nearby has a great atmosphere and serves amazing food. Staff at the park are friendly and willing to help, and the office is open from 9 until 5 most of the time. I would definately recommend this place for those who enjoy fishing .
  • Disliked: Nearest pub to walk to was 2 miles away .
From the manager...

Hi Jbenns
Hope you are well .
The nearest pub is a mile away . (Stapleton Arms which is a lovelly gastro pub ) The Ship Inn is about 1.5 miles and does amazing food and the Blackmore Vale in Marnhull is about the same .
Glad you enjoyed your stay and the fishing was good.
Look forward to seeing you again.
Kind regards
Chris

4 day carp fishing trip

(Solo traveller-male, 1 review, 1 photo)   Confirmed

  • Date stayed: Oct 2013
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked: The fishing on Rush Lake was perfect for me. No specimen fish in this lake but some very heathly and enjoyable 5-15lb sport. These we mainly common and mirror carp on my hook, but a friend landed bream and roach on lighter tackle.
The campsite and hard standings are good and each has its own electric hook-up and drinking water - no problems with these.
The campsite toilet and showers where clean and very useable, although I tended to use my campervan facilities.
Overall it is a very well managed and friendly campsite and fishery, but probably most well suited to the touring fisherman, wildlife addicts and walkers rather than touring families. Very quiet at night.
Oh, the on-site butchery is a real bonus and The Ship pub a short distance down the road offers meals and beers not to be missed.

Lovely area to camp and this site is great if you are wanting to fish

(Young couple, 1 review)   Confirmed

  • Liked: The scenery, quiet area away from road - reasonable rates. Hook ups on every pitch. Very good shower and toilet wagon with hot water and clean.
  • Disliked: Not easy to find the entrance if you are travelling from the west because of the situation of the sign. No one to welcome us on arrival other than some other campers who had been waiting for ages to be shown where to go and had decided to work it out for themselves by this point. The manager was riding around the site on a quad bike and we met him on the way to the site. There are no footpaths from this site to go walking and the road to the nearest village and pub! has no footoath so you have to use transport. There were no lights in the toilet block (apparantly they had been having problems with them according to the site worker, but one camper went round the back of the unit and announced that they were not working because they weren 't plugged in!!!) Also there were no bins on site, which when you are on a motorbike as we were was not helpful.
From the manager...

Hi
We are sorry you had these issues with the site .
There are 3 pubs within walking distance of the park along footpaths all within 2 miles with the nearest a mile away across the fields and there are 3 footpaths that cut through the farm itself so im a litle confused by this comment . We dont have bins on the site itself as they tend to get over used by fishermen , but we do have bins in the farm yard for people staying on site . There was an issue with the photo cell on the toilet block which stopped the lights from working but that was sorted out quickly but at the time the electrician was on holiday so we appologise for that . We are a small family run site so if the reception is shut which is unusual it is best to phone the number on the door as whoever is on duty will be nearby .
Many thanks
Chris (owner)
