Is there anything quite like a peaceful Breton break to chase away the blues? Get along to Camping Le Saint Laurent in Ploemel for scenic stays among pine trees and to be close to Morbihan's renowned coastline. It's a short hop from the site to the beach, but there's much more to get up to during your travels here: hikers will be able to stretch their legs along the nearby GR 34 route, while speed demons can zoom round the local go-karting track. Amateur archeologists, meanwhile, may be interested to learn that Camping Le Saint Laurent is also well-placed for visits to the far-famed Carnac stones. If you feel like taking a break from all that action, head back to Camping Le Saint Laurent for some much-deserved down time. Drop the tiddlers at the kids’ club for some site-organised ents and head to the covered pool for a few lengths, or gather the gang together and get to know your neighbours over a chilled game of pétanque. Restorative refreshments are also on offer from the snack bar. Ploemel village centre is a five-minute drive away – here you'll find handy local amenities like a station, patisserie, restaurant and pharmacy. There's a small food shop on site for essentials, but for a family-sized shop you might want to head 10 minutes down the road to the big supermarket on the outskirts of Auray.

The friendly site staff reckon that the best bet for folks who fancy a day at the beach is Plage de Kerhillio (15 minutes' drive) – as well as the sand and scenic surrounds, here you'll find opportunities for lessons in all kinds of adventurous antics like undersea diving, sand yachting and kitesurfing. Experienced surfers who'd rather someone else lugged the boards around while on hol can also hire their gear here and head straight for the waves. Keeping the kids happy need not be a chore at this family-friendly spot. The site is a five-minute drive from Kart 56, an 800-metre go-karting track where they can put the pedal to the metal in full safety gear and under the watchful eye of expert instructors. Le P'tit Délire play park (10 minutes) is also close at hand with its fab splash zone, slides and kooky contraptions… Further afield, head to the Carnac stones (15 minutes) if you fancy visiting one of the biggest megalithic sites on the planet. For urban outings with a salty flavour, Lorient (35 minutes) and its well-regarded naval history museums are pretty sure to please.
