Have a day each in Saint-Malo, Cancale and Dinan, all with their own flavour. Saint-Malo is the most visited area in Bretagne; walk the ancient city walls here on the west side of la citadelle and take a trip to Le Grand Aquarium before an afternoon/evening in one of the Saint-Malo seafood restaurants. See food also at Cancale, known for centuries for its oysters; get sand between your toes at the four beaches of Dinard, part of Brittany’s world-famed Emerald Coast; and at Dinan, tramp the cobbled streets among the old half-timbered houses of the medieval town. Mont St-Michel Bay sees plenty of sailors and hikers looking for active options on or near the water, but most visitors come to take a guided tour at low tide – up to 30 kilometres of sand can be exposed here when the water recedes – and to seal and bird spot on the beaches and on the island of Tombelaine. Horse riding and microlight flights are available around and over the bay.
