Our site is very much as advertised - back to basics camping with portaloos and cold water showers and we don't pretend otherwise. There are plenty of photos of the site on pitch up that can be viewed before booking including the facilities. This isn't for everyone, but as per some of the lovely 10/10 reviews below if you are wanting a return to nature with basic facilities then our site is grand, but not everyone reads what they have booked. Our prices and facilities are fairly transparent. £20 per pitch. Portaloos, cold water showers. Back to basics. Nice views, access to good walks. We repeat this information as much as possible on pitch up and on our website but it still seems to somehow surprise many customers arriving on site. To anyone reading this review: absolutely if basic facilities aren't your thing you may not enjoy our site, we never pretend to be anything we aren't. But if you want a quiet peaceful trip surrounded by nature with basic amenities we are the place for you. We would have thought for most campers the idea of the site being spacious and not overcrowded during the middle of the week would have been a great advantage, yes we agree there is loads of space and the site is very empty I.e. you are surrounded by nature with lots of space between you and other campers. One persons disadvantage is for a lot of people the main attraction!

We tend to leave people to it, as many of our guests enjoy the quiet, we don't bother campers and leave them to enjoy their peaceful stay. Hence we don't always make ourselves known when we are on site. We get on with the important jobs that need doing. Rest assured we are on site every single day restocking firewood, emptying bins, cleaning the toilets and conducting site checks. But we are not on site 24 hours a day (especially not during the middle of harvest the busiest time of year for working farms) so we're sorry to have missed you, we're always at the end of the phone to help with any issues or to come down onto site. Many campers enjoy this more laid back and less invasive approach. But we're always quick to resolve any messages and calls to quickly deal with rulebreakers. But with 3 other pitches on site during your stay it sounds like everything ran smoothly and there were no issues.

Sorry to hear you found our communication to be school teacher like. The nature of running a campsite is unfortunately quite similar to being a school teacher! We're in a constant state of having to police our rules and make sure that our policies are being followed. Otherwise we end up with issues on site, people making noise late into the night, people leaving campfires unattended, litter all over the site, facilities left in an unfit state. Hence we do have to be quite clear on the rules and instructions in our communication. If everyone followed the rules it would be a lot easier to ease up. We're so happy you liked our campsite, but part of what keeps it nice for everyone is us enforcing the rules to make sure the site is kept in good order.
