It probably won’t be a surprise to those who holiday there – Cornwall has been named top all-round visitor destination at the British Travel Awards.
The county was awarded the top prize in several categories, being crowned Best Holiday County for the fourth year in a row. St Ives won Best Coastal Town for the third time, and the Eden Project scooped Best Leisure Attraction for the second year running.
The online guide site www.visitcornwall.com won Best Visitor Guide Website, and there were Bronze trophies for the Minack Theatre in the Best Heritage Attraction category and for Fal River in Best Coastal Towns.
Over a million people voted in this year’s awards.
Joan Symons, Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Leisure, said: ‘These amazing award titles are all the more credible because they are from the people that count, visitors themselves - the nation has spoken and shown its love for Cornwall.
‘To win awards in what has been a difficult year is testament to the strength of the tourism industry and offers a fantastic basis for 2013.’
Pitchup.com has over 360 campsites, caravan parks and holiday parks in Cornwall, covering everything from touring and tent pitches to caravans for hire and tipis, yurts and wigwams. Many Cornwall campsites and caravan parks are open all year, with prices starting from £10 per night.
