If you're passing through São Thomé das Letras, you'll probably want to settle down close to the town's main attraction, Antônio Rosa Municipal Park. Pousada e Camping do Robinho is well situated for visiting the rock formations and far-reaching views of this smashing spot, as it's an easy 15-minute drive from both the park entrance and the centre of town. This well-tended, grassy site is located in a stunning slice of Minas Gerais, and with surrounds like these you can be pretty sure you'll be snapping plenty of pics of your explores. With this in mind, the folk that run this site have installed several handy charging points, where guests can juice up their various cameras, smartphones and the like. Other facilities here include wifi, a washing-up area, toilets and showers. Fancy snacking while surveying these green and pleasant grounds? A barbecue area with views of the surrounding woodland is on hand for cooking outdoors. Need a space for meal prep before setting out for the day? Head to this part of Minas Gerais if you seek the pitter-patter of waterfalls and crystalline natural pools – there are more than 30 in the local area. Among top local cascades are the large-scale Cachoeira da Eubiose (a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk), the peaceful dell that’s home to Cachoeira do Flávio (a 10-minute drive) and the small but perfectly formed Cachoeira da Lua (15 minutes). Antônio Rosa Municipal Park (15 minutes) is another nearby hub for open-air jaunts. Head here for the Pirâmide and Toca da Bruxa rock formations and for a viewpoint with spectacular vistas. All that geology piqued your interest? Head underground for more rocky adventures in the caves at Carimbado (10 minutes) and Sobradinho (40 minutes). Football fans who don't mind venturing slightly farther afield should set their sights on Pelé's childhood house in Três Corações (about an hour). This medium-sized town on the river Verde is, unsurprisingly, mightily proud of its most famous son, and has set up a statue in his honour. Visitors here who stick around have access to a range of bars, restaurants and a local cultural centre, too.
