The shepherds hut is very clean and I was made to feel very welcome. The hut itself has bedding, towels and a dressing gown provided. I was worried I might be cold if not running the fire but there is a heater that more than kept me warm. The internet connection is good and fine for streaming a movie in the evening.
The facilities hut is well kitted out with combi microwave oven, a small fridge with a little freezer compartment, kettle and a single hob. Crockery and cutlery is all provided and they even have tea and coffee available. There was also cooking oil, salt and vinegar provided. If you don’t want to cook Deliveroo is also available. The shower was warm and perfect after a day out walking.
The site has beautiful views across the valley and easy access to several walks. The railway walk running past the bottom of the drive is great if you just want a fairly flat route that you can easily follow. There are no stiles on that route with access through gates so it’s ideal if you have a dog that doesn’t do stiles or if you just don’t like climbing over them yourself. The paddock around the hut is fenced but due to livestock in neighbouring fields you are asked to keep your dog on lead. Mine loved the splash pool. Parking is easy and the site was peaceful.
It is within easy distance of Pen-y-Fan and a drive up the heads of the valleys road is well worth it. There are several reservoirs with walking routes nearby if you want to branch further afield.
The staff on site are friendly and couldn’t help more. When I raised that the utilities hut was a bit cold a heater was added within half an hour.
All in all a wonderful experience.
