Good welcome on arrival and quickly directed onto pitch and facilities , waste disposal and our hook up etc pointed out. Caravan expertly guided back with no fuss for both our units (2 caravans)
We were next to each other on a grass pitches as all the hardstanding ones were booked already but they were level and the generous pitch area marked out well by lines made by cutting grass shorter
Field wasn't quite full with a few caravans and several large family tents but even if it had been it seemed there would be plenty room for each unit
Several families on field as well as couples but no noise problems and was very relaxing
Rained on day of arrival then cleared up in afternoon but no drainage problems and grass dried out over stay
Good fenced off walk around site for dog walkers or those just wanting some exercise/stroll in partly wooded area
Plenty of space in middle of field for kids to play or run around ( under supervision of families) and also to sit outside units
Facilities ( next to camping field) were good, showers warm enough with usual stop start after around 1 minute but was fine. They were clean and well mantained . We didn't use the other block near to reception as slightly further away and these were OK. They were never busy at the time I went (usually early around 7 - 7.30) Others in our party ( 2 caravans ) went at different tiimes even in eveningon occasion and didn't mention any issues
We prefer hookup greater than 10 amp but no had problems with any cut outs as we managed electric use
We caught bus on main road (A64) into York which worked well for us but there is a short walk up the site access on mainroad with no footpath to reach A64 which needs care whilst walking but is easily managed
There is also a less frequent Castle Line bus from outside the site ( time tables posted in shower block) for those who prefer to avoid the walk and this goes a different route to and from city to nearby or same bus stops as the main road one
It is possible to explore nearby Malton using the same buses or even go onto Whitby /Scarborough for those who don't mind a slightly longer journey on 840 or 843 Coastliner services but care needed crossing busy road (A64) although fortunately there is an island near bus stop to allow safer crossing when really busy
Alternatively could also use a car if have one
We enjoyed our short stay (BH weekend) and intend to use again as not too far for weekend stays
