At Pitchup.com, we believe the outdoors is for everyone.

Pitchup.com was founded on a deep love of the British countryside and a desire to enjoy all the benefits it brings for our wellbeing. We have always wanted to share that love and encourage as many people as possible to holiday in the outdoors.

We know disabled customers and customers with access requirements experience challenges in finding clear, detailed and accurate accessibility information that allows them to book accessible holidays. That's why we want to make it easier and quicker to find and book an outdoor holiday that is perfect for you and your guests.

Pitchup's approach to accessibility

At Pitchup.com we believe in engaging communities directly, actively seeking feedback that helps us to build inclusive products. For accessibility, we partnered with experts at Purple Goat, a disability-led and disability-focused inclusive marketing agency, to survey 2,000 disabled people in the UK and learn about their thoughts, feelings and experiences with outdoor holidays.

What our research showed

Our research showed that the outdoor accomodation industry is failing when it comes to welcoming disabled customers. While 75% of disabled people who have taken an outdoor holiday previously said they were satisfied with the accessibility of the trip overall, around half did experience a challenge related to accessibility during their stay. Furthermore, 83% of disabled people who have never taken an outdoor holiday are put off by accessibility concerns, as they are worried that accommodation would fail to meet their needs, and unable to access the detailed information they need to make a booking confidently.

The changes we have made

We are launching new search filters to make it easier to find a campsite, caravan park or glampsite with accessible amenities.

Adding these new filters also means it is easier for campsites, caravan sites, glampsites and holiday parks to add detailed accessibility information to their listing.

Our survey showed that 95% of disabled people would find information on accessible bathrooms and shower rooms, parking, entrances and exits, site access and pitch location helpful - we have taken the feedback on board, and these new filters reflect this.

Don’t forget to explore Pitchup.com’s other search filters, which can support a broad range of access needs. For example, you can also filter a search by:

  • Size of site, ranging from less than 10 pitches to over 200

  • Peaceful and quiet sites (no music)

  • Rural locations

  • Sites with refrigerators available

  • Charging facilities

  • Sites with public transportation nearby and/or pick up from local transportation

Please note, while Pitchup does not currently independently verify accessibility information provided by sites, we know this is important to the disability community and are working hard to introduce this in the future.

We continuously strive to improve accessibility at Pitchup. If you need assistance, want to share an idea, or give us feedback, please get in touch.
