Location is handy for Buxton and Ashbourne, site is flat and easy to find

In theory it’s cosy but was not our experience

We rented a caravan over a tent because it’s winter and we wanted heating and a nice place to cook however neither of these things worked. Our heaters fan would not blow out any hot air no matter what setting we placed it on so we were forced to remain cold for the time we were there. Out caravan had a crack in the front window so without the heating, it kept getting more and more cold. The shutters did not work either. The water supply to our caravan wasn’t great, we would turn the tap on and no water would come out whatsoever. We were told to fill the bucket from the tap but after doing so, we realised no water would come through the caravan because the water pipe was duct taped to the side of the caravan meaning the water would just leak out. We were unable to use any water so were forced to buy some locally.

The bathrooms were disgusting and were not cleaned whatsoever, there was pile of mud in the shower which isn’t appealing considering we aren’t allowed to use the facilities in the caravan so you’d assume the portables would be cleaned. It put us off showering.

We were told to call an hour before we arrived but received no answer after countless calls and message. Instead we got a call saying our booking was cancelled on the second day of us being there because a caravan has flooded. This wasn’t for us but rather for another customer. It wasn’t planned or organised efficiently.

During the shower (which is only 4 minutes for a pound) the power tripped and everything went off in the campsite. We called to ask for help but got told no one could come to help us and we’d have to wait about 6 hours in the winter night before we got ANY power. I felt mansplained because the owner asked us “have you stayed at a caravan before” when we told him all of our issues. No one came down to even check. the stay was so bad we left a night early and had to cut our trip short. Would defo not stay again. It was poorly organised and the we received no support. For the money we spent, you barely got value. Avoid this place!!!

got a fire pit £15 which consisted of an armful load of wet wood thats been kept outside, and a literal handful of kindling like 5 pieces and not even a full firelighting block. if you don't know how to light a fire properly you'd of had no chance.
took over an hour for it to get going by the time it was raining, so a waste of money and time, as i didn't get to enjoy it. and it had to be as far from ur tent as possible.

toilet is a converted shower block so you have a dump and you cant wipe ur own backside with the door shut if you are over 6ft. but luckily it was pitch black, and needed a jet wash and some deodorant in there.

all bins full to the brim.

also says in the description they have peacocks and chickens on site around the farm but was none.

Enjoyed it. Nice little site with everything you need. Showers, toilets etc. Nice pub a couple of miles down the road.

Location perfect for walkers to use as a base. Well maintained by a lovely family. It is a back to basics site, ideal to escape the bustle and demands of everyday life.

Nothing to dislike.

The negative reviews were quite off putting, but completely unfounded, it's a back to basics site.

The site was clean and quiet, great for walking and exploring the local area. Had a lovely walk with the dog past a nice farm shop and to a lovely pub the bulls head. Facilities were cleaned daily and perfect for a weekend break

Very well located for great walks. No need to move your car or if you do its only a short drive.
Very friendly and helpful host.
Good sized pitches (we only travelled as a couple and had a 3 man tent.
Adequate shower and toilet.

This is close to the main road and on a flight path but this is not a negative on the site.

Brilliant site, lovely owners. We felt welcome and so did our dogs.
Amenity block was good and never too busy.
Excellent pub just a short walk away through field and loved the donkeys 🫏 next door

The actual camping field- appeared pleasant enough if all of the other issues were dealt with and if only in a small tent.

I booked this stay on bank holiday weekend, shortly before I left my house, so approximately 2 hours before arrival. Unlike many sites on Pitchup, the only option was to pay in full, before arrival... this should have been an alarm bell in hindsight. The reviews on Pitchup seemed ok so I went for it. I use Pitchup 6-8 times per year and have never before had negative feedback to give. I booked for a folding camper van with electric and sent the dimensions of my unit to the site.

Upon arrival, there was nobody around to speak to. The site was very small (an orchard in next to a back garden) I called a mobile number I was sent and nobody answered. I called a landline number and was told to pitch in one of three pitches. I looked at these and none of them were big enough for my unit. I walked around the site and again couldn't find anyone. The toilet and shower facilities were dirty rather than just basic and surrounded in debris. The showers were also £1 which is a lot on top of already expensive fees. I was camping for four days with three children and a dog and started to think this was not the place to be. A young man then came out and I asked him whether I could have a larger pitch. The man directed me to a smaller pitch with an overhanging tree where I couldn't have opened up the camper as there was no space. I told him this and he said 'it is what it is'. He also said that the electric points on the side of the filed where I had initially been sent to were not working...glad I didn't get set up there to find that out later then!

There was also no space around the pitches I'd been offered and those who were already there were very close together indeed. The images on Pitchup were of large open fields which I can only think are surrounding fields as there was no space on the site for kids to play or to reasonably be able to keep a dog. There was also a very large group of just young men pitched in one corner of the site and it was very close to both the carpark of an abandoned pub (the pub that was advertised as the nearby pizzeria) and so close to the a road that it was all you could hear.

I didn't feel safe- there was clearly nobody around watching comings and goings. I tried then to call repeatedly for over half an hour to speak to the owner/manager about a different pitch. It was getting late and I had to make a decision. I decided to cancel the pitch. Having only booked a couple of hours before and finding that the site was not as advertised and that it did not feel like a safe, family site, I'd have expected at least a partial refund. The fees for the site were not cheap- £170 for 4 nights. Part of this included a whopping £10 per night electricity fee as well as extra charges for the children. The owner deigned to get in touch with me two days after I had asked for a refund and called me unreasonable and suggested that it was my fault because I could have asked for another pitch. He knew full well that I had tried in vain to contact him many many times before leaving the site. I suggested that he send a partial refund for only the second night onwards or that he refund only the amount I had been charged for electricity- which I had not used. He refused.

I had found a beautiful, cheaper, safer and well- equipped site only 8 minutes away (Beech Croft Farm). Loads of safe space, peaceful and clean. The owners need to take a leaf out of their books- I spent £5 in total for five days worth of electricity here and nearly £15 per night less

One of these places where they want to bring in the money but not lay out on the upkeep. I wish I'd seen more honest reviews on Pitchup but if you want to read the real opinions of others, there are lots and lots on google... if I was desperate and on my own, I could bring myself to do a one night stopover here but it certainly didn't feel like a holiday location- more of a motorway stopover; pass through and shake the dust from your feet on the way out!
