Quiet, with well-spaced pitches (some in the open, others with shade if needed) in an unspoilt and natural environment. Hammocks, fire-pits and benches with awnings provided. Basic but clean facilities. Excellent help from the owners.

The campsite location means you have to drive to go for a walk but this was fine for us

Welcome text before arrival, really felt for the owners had torrential rain, did our best to not disturb there camp site, unfortunately other guests didn't respect there camp and made the ground undrivable, for there own selfish reasons, hosts came up with solutions to make the camp drivable and personally came to my tent to explain how they could help,
Tbh with the weather how it was it was I couldn't Of asked more than they offered, but feel they would of gone further should of I have asked, thank you so much x

Should of closed of main gate in order to preserve drive way.

My adult daughter and I spent two nights in Toad, a lovely hut with a very comfortable large bed which was made up before we arrived, indoor table & chairs and a sofa (which can convert to a bed); outdoor picnic bench, camping chairs, chiminea and bbq for own use. A short walk across the field to a communal hot shower and compost toilet and a fridge,freezer and power points just across the road. No electricity in the hut but it has battery powered lighting.

Very easy check in and friendly service. Nice walk around the adjacent wheat field. Dog friendly.

Pretty pub nearby, the 5 Bells in Rattlesden, with a big garden and quality hamburger van outside which has a good veggie option and who will deliver to your table.

This is a lovely site, nature-friendly and secluded. Each pitch is different, but all are well-equipped with tables, awnings and hammocks, and with well-maintained compost loos nearby. I had a very happy time.

The rural feel of the location.
Wild camping feel as no electricity on site. But it's nice to be away from it all.
Compost toilets around the site are kept very clean.

Coming home

Lovely peaceful site! Plenty of room between pitches for privacy and nice and small so only a couple of people walked past all day. Compost loos are spread out only a short walk away from each pitch and there are basic washing facilities on the main field only. It’s basic but that’s what I call proper camping! Some of the pitches even have picnic tables and hammocks in the shade which was a nice surprise. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back. The additional treat of seeing the resident barn owl was very special!

Barn Owl campsite is an absolute gem.

We were given a choice of pitches, which was a hard choice as each was special in its own way. The whole site was very peaceful and felt beautifully natural. My children had lots of space to run around, as well as interesting places to explore. In short, Barn Owl campsite gave us a wonderful and rare balance of privacy, tranquility, and natural joy!
