General

Gwaenynog is a beautiful farm in a quiet and scenic location, about 1mile from River Vyrnwy. Surrounded by 16 acres of land - a mixture of fields, woods and wetland; there’s a lot of wildlife and flora, plus a variety of birds, including Peregrines and our resident Tawny Owl.
Bordered by ancient woodland and hedgerows that offer seclusion, the campsite offers some wonderful views. You can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet that is synonymous with Gwaenynog. Quiet country lanes, ideal for walking or cycling, can join up with marked walks such as Glyndwr’s Way or Ann Griffiths walk (a mile away); or utilise other public footpaths and bridleways that cross the surrounding farmland. Or walk to the local pub (2.5m).
We can offer milk, bread and other provisions which are delivered 3 days a week – just let us know. There’s a covered barbeque area, shower, toilets and washing-up facilities; plus licensed to provide a selection of wine, beer & spirits for your enjoyment.
Dogs are allowed to roam on the campsite but must be monitored and kept under control at all times. The Farmhouse also offers B&B accommodation, so non-camping family members can also be catered for. (www.gwaenynog.com).

Things to do & Places to visit
There is a lot to see and do in this beautiful area. Known as an area of Lakes and Mountains, its well worth stopping by...
An ideal base from which to explore Mid Wales and is a short driving distance from Lake Vyrnwy, Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Machynlleth, Llangollen, Dolgellau, Snowdonia, and a little farther away are the beaches of Cardigan Bay, or shopping at Chester and Aberystwyth.Places to visit are:
- Llanfair Caereinion (4 miles) – with its Light Steam Railway to Welshpool.
- Dolanog (1 mile) – and its river / waterfalls, with the Ann Griffiths Walk, who was a Welsh 18th Century Hymn-writer, lived locally and is buried in Llanfihangel – and is commemorated by a circular 7 mile walk going through Dolanog; and then there’s the 150mile Glyndwr’s Way Trail crossing through Dolanog. The river Vyrnwy runs through Dolanog, where you can canoe the river and rapids.
- Or you could explore the Meini Bywiol Living Stones Heritage Trail which has 3 trails for you to discover hidden treasures in 15 local churches
- Welshpool (12 miles) - with its local market and many individual shops, plus welcoming pubs and restaurants.
- Powis Castle (13miles) - a National Trust mediaeval castle with renowned parkland gardens with the famous Yew clipped hedging.
- Lake Vyrnwy (9 miles) – with its spectacular masonry dam and nature reserve, including a RSPB viewing area and a sculpture park/trail. There are some amazing things to do - cycle, walk, or go sailing...
- Llangollen and the Berwyn mountains (25 miles)
- Snowdon and the national park of Snowdonia are just a drive away (25 miles) The Long Mynd, Stiperstones and Cader Idris are all about an hour's drive.
- Plus the spectacular waterfall (Pistyll Rhaeadr) at the head of the valley (photo above) near Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant (approx 10 miles) and worth the 15 minute drive up the valley. You can even walk up the side of the waterfall, on designated routes if you have the energy!! If not then just take a leisurely cup of tea / snack at the cafe alongside the falls.
- If you like fishing, then there are myriad of choices from us - we're about a mile or so from two rivers, Banwy and Vyrnwy, which has fishing along its length in different locations. Or for fly-fshing, try Valley Dam.
Alternatively you can take on something more challenging, the Forest Experience Driving School is something worth considering - or perhaps the Yamaha Offroad Experience; both only a half hour drive away.
Or perhaps you'd like to try something else: Shooting at Mid Wales Shooting Centre, be inspired at the Centre for Alternative Technology, or enjoy some nature reserves nearby with the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust or RSPB sites at Lake Vyrnwy. All within 30-40 minutes drive.
(All distances approximate, as it depends which route you take!)
