Fantastic back to basics campsite, with all essential amenities.

Liked Loved the peace and quiet of this campsite and the relaxed and trusting atmosphere. It is centrally located in a really great part of the island with good access to all major attractions not too far away. Being able to pitch where you like is an added bonus and experienced campers may find it nicer to pitch nearer to the washing up area of the field away from the noises of the road! A great place to destress! The owner was very diligent in her cleaning routine in the mornings and everything was clean and spotless both in the toilets, sink area and shower. Always plenty of toilet paper and hand sanitiser. The owner was very friendly and approachable. I liked the fact that we could arrive and leave when we wanted which to me is the biggest thing that I liked as it allowed us to take the tent down in the sun and not the rain! So much more relaxed is fantastic, thank you so much for a great time at your site.

Disliked It can be very windy and there were no windbreaks in the field to help with this. I don't dislike this too much, but it is worth pointing out to the owners that if they want to allow campers all year it might be something to consider. I had to park my car across the side of the tent to help with this as we were using gas cookers outside and needed the windbreak. As an experienced camper I am not going to moan about this as I take everything in my stride, but for a novice camper it might be frustrating or a worry. I think they might need some pick up your litter signs on the fences as previous campers had left things like can ring pulls and bottle lids in the grass which might be a danger to the animals! And finally, if you are a camper and thinking of coming to this campsite please be respectful of the animals and take your litter home!

Liked The amazing views across the estuary and listening to the local wildlife during the day and at night which was very abundant birds, loads of different butterflies and bats too. Watching the ospreys hunting down the estuary during the day and then flying out to sea was awe inspiring as we were opposite a protected RSPB site on the other side of the bank. Watching my family enjoying swimming in the water and walking the huge entire width of the estuary to the other side at low tide (squishy mud in places). Being able to have a fire in the evenings thanks to the fire pits provided whilst watching the sunset over the hills and then later on star gazing was fantastic. Loved the serenity and tranquility of the place. My grandson loved the sandy beach, swimming in the estuary and fishing. My daughter liked the beach and sea being so close to our camp. My other two sons were determined to catch some of the flat fish we could see feeding along the shores edge. The use of wheelbarrows to get all our equipment to the site. We loved our little pitch which was snuggled under an old oak tree in the middle pitch and offered a fair amount of protection against bad weather. I've done alot of scouting and felt this site was very back to basics which we all really liked. The owner who we met eventually, was able to tell us about the wildlife around us which I really liked, very informative. We loved the resident dog and cat x

Disliked No apparent reception area or anyone to greet us, we were helped by a camper already pitched there, we did arrive a bit late in the evening though . We did meet the owner eventually a really nice chap. The toilets were a long way from the camp so we had to use a bucket, no worries. No hot water in the two toilets. Only one old ceramic sink in one of the toilets wasn't sure if we were supposed to use this for washing up or the metal sink we found by the Boatyard hidden from view by a bush this was also cold water. The pathway was a little uneven in places and we found it difficult to push the wheelbarrows along it also the gorse needs trimming as it scratched our legs and hands. The pitch was a bit thin in places so we couldn't peg out steel pegs without bending them on the slate. Tip, use slate slabs to hold your guy ropes down.

From the manager: Hi Caroline, Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. I am sure that many people visiting this site will find them useful and I indeed have too. We try and make the camping information as visible as possible on our notice boards as we simply cannot have someone available 24/7 and we do like to be as flexible as possible with arrival times. I will definitely look at improving the signage. All of our water comes from a private borehole (definitely tested this summer) and yes we do see our site as back to basics....or rather, nature! The sink next to the shipping container is for the campers....but yes I am afraid you will need to heat your water via camping stove or campfire. There is however hot water for showering of course. The amazing weather had in May, June and July has meant that our grass was completely scorched (as it was everywhere) and this has meant bare patches on the pitches unfortunately......we also find that many of our guests also like to pitch on the same bare location....probably due to view....but we are meeting to discuss how we can improve/rectify this. I do hope to see you here again soon....and perhaps your future generations moving forward. Ben
