Beautiful location05/28/2023

We stayed in Belle, which is the tent right at the bottom of the hill away from the other tents and is located between a river and a pond. The location was stunning and it was a nice surprise to get a little extra privacy. Was very relaxing to hear the rambling of the river at night.
The tent was actually really large inside and the bed was very comfy. Tea, coffee, milk, mugs, gas stove, spare gas bottles etc were all provided which was lovely.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the fairy lights on belle were not working at the time which was a shame. We did have our own so we put them up for the night instead.
The toilets I think are in need of some updating, they were very small and only one sink is available. I also think it would help to have some air freshener available.
The hill to car park 1 is very, very steep. Obviously there is nothing naturally glamping can do to change this but I struggled with the walk up there! As such I’d recommend triple checking that you have everything you need to avoid return trips. We only stayed one night but I can imagine it would become quite a chore to get to your car (if parked in car park 1) repeatedly over a longer stay.
The tent itself was very cold at night (the duvet and blankets were great but even so we were still cold), so perhaps thicker blankets are needed.

From the manager...

Hi Zoe.

Glad you loved Belle. Definitely a fave!
Sorry the fairy lights weren't working. If you'd let us know we'd have got our on site guy to come have a look/replace. Sounds like you came prepared though ;-)
We are actually in the process of having a large outdoor sink put in and we do also have the large sink in the changing rooms area.
Good suggestions on the air freshener though, added on our to buy list!
Yes the track is very steep, part of what makes the remote location so beautiful and wild. We do prepare everyone with this info when they book and on their arrival info so hopefully there is some managing of expectations there.
Yes camping in the Uk can be cold and night and definitely worth bringing extra layers as we recommend in the arrival info. It can also get very warm in the tents once the UK summer shows itself.

Thanks for your feedback and your booking x

Lovely location. Felt like a real escape, but still able to access local amenities and explore easily.
Tent, location and facilities were as described, so we were well prepared to appreciate what the site offered. Everything was very clean. The staff we met were all friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

One of the toilets was out of use, so only a single functional toilet and only one shower. If you are staying when the site is busy, this could be a real downside.

From the manager...

Thanks for a lovely review and so pleased you had a nice time. Your photos are fab! Mind if I use them on our social media? Sorry about the toilet, that is getting fixed this week! We are planning on building a second shower for when we get busier too. Thanks again

The woods and the set up was lovely

    Disliked:

The hill! Only 4x4’s can get up and down the hill, using a wheel barrow to travel 3 times up and down 200 meters of what felt like Mount Everest was super hard work. On the plus side I’ve come home with a huge workout on my thighs and bum! The showers and the dish wash station being in the same room and the lights in the toilets, even during the day it was too dark.

From the manager...

Glad you liked the tent set up and the location (minus the hill!) Yes it is a big hill but that it was makes the remote location so special. We do make it very clear when booking r.e the hill so hopefully it wasn't too much of a shock. We are currently building an outdoor kitchen so will have at least 1 sink outside of the dressing/changing rooms. We have much better lighting in the toilets now too. Thanks for the feedback

Peace and quiet, the resident ducks, the fairy lights.. (although some have more than others) toilet (x2) and shower unit x 1 which did the job but I would hate to have to use them if the site was fully booked. Could ideally provide more facilities. The other bits provided in the tent, tea/coffee/mugs water bottles and LED torch and cool box, water bottles and instructions etc were all very useful.

    Disliked:

We stayed in Zippy, as the photos on the website showed it looking over a beautiful lake. However, when we arrived we couldn’t actually see the lake as it was covered by trees, shrubs etc. This was a little disappointing although could hear the water which was nice. Also, in said website photos the field looked quite well maintained, short grass and tidy looking, but again on arrival it was very over grown and abit scruffy looking. I understand the term used is Naturally Glamping- but it did make it feel and look very unkept. There was a hanging bag of water in the damp bag on the centre pillar which should have been replaced as it was useless it being there. Also there were 3 old hangers, on the central
Pilllar, which I think may have been left by previous guests. There was grass on the carpet inside the tent too when we arrived so hadn’t been swept out. Abit disappointing for the first impression. I know that the warning of the road down is provided on the email you receive two days prior to arriving. BUT this really should be provided as a general note at the time of booking as it REALLY is very bad and exceedingly hard to drive up and out of the site. We parked in carpark 2 and it still took us three attempts (at speed) to get up and over the numerous ridges and holes and divots to get off site as the gravel/stones are so loose. We had a Fiat Doblo so quite high in base and sturdy and we were very shocked at the struggle we had. All you could hear were people (in their 4x4 cars wheel-spinning as they tackled the driveway too head off.
We never saw any member of staff whist we stayed from Sat- Mon and no response from emails prior to arriving.

From the manager...

Were really sorry that there were elements of your trip you disliked. Regarding the track, there is a section on the Pitch Up website where we can add 'please note' and it does mention the track. We have had 3 summers of guests and the majority like the sense of adventure and the location, nature, peace and views are what you get in reward.
The coat hangers are left in the tent as guests like to use them to hang their things or wet coats from the awning. Sorry your dehumidifier was full, there was a lot of rain and moisture last week, so must have filled quicker than usual and the cleaner missed it.
We were extremely short staffed last week and then had an emergency with our site manager so he was not around.
Glad you like the nature and peace though and hope you enjoyed overall

Walked to the little village of Ideford one evening, and had dinner in the local pub there, everyone was exceptionally friendly and the food was excellent.
