General

  • Friendly site a few minutes' drive from the spa town of Saillon
  • Verbier, Nendaz and Champéry within a half-hour drive for skiing
  • Excellent restaurant on site, plus heated communal kitchen and lounge

What an active place is the mountainous area around Saillon. In summer it’s all climbing, bike rides and scenic hikes (several of which take you through the Valais vineyards, which is always a promising proposal). Winter visitors have heaps of ski trails to choose from within a half-hour drive, and plenty of other cold-season antics including cross country skiing, curling, skating and tobogganing.

Suffering post-activity sore muscles? What better excuse to wallow in the warm waters of Saillon’s thermal baths. Perhaps a a bit hungry too? This is where Relais de la Sarvaz, a friendly site just outside the village, really comes into its own – guests here can feast on top-notch meals with minimal effort by bagging a table at the restaurant or the brasserie.

When not roaming, wallowing or eating, there’s plenty more to fill time on site – an indoor/outdoor pool for summertime swims, a volleyball court, a miniature golf course, a playground and a trampoline, plus bikes that can be borrowed for free to take out for short jaunts in the summer months.

No need to fear being left out in the cold here, for the site’s heated main building houses games rooms, a cosy TV lounge, a launderette and a kitchen with fridge, freezer and dishwashers. The toilet block has free hot showers and accessible facilities, and there’s a well-stocked shop on site to keep you supplied with essentials.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The bar and/or restaurant is open between 14/02 et 31/12.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/04 et 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The grocery shop is open between 14/02 et 31/12.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The indoor swimming pool is open between 15/04 and 30/09.

For electric-optional grass pitches (ensuite, premium), your unit must be left clean and tidy. A fine of CHF 200 will be charged for unclean units upon departure.

The location of the campsite is quite stunning, surrounded by mountains and apple orchards. The toilet and washing facilities were good, and clean, and there was a lovely garden to sit and have a cold beer in, and admire the surroundings after a long days driving. There is a well stocked shop, and a very helpful staff for check in and orientation when you get there. We only stayed one night, but our experience was good, and although the facilities for the children are very good, it was not too noisy, and the site seemed very well organised.

We had a booking for Saturday evening all the way to Tuesday during peak season . The manager of this place gave us a 7 x10m pitch instead of a 10x 10m pitch in which we paid. We were unhappy that this pitch size was given even though we had paid for the larger one purely on the basis that it has the privacy of the greenery hedge. As we had a small toddler she was always very active and adventurous this hedges would have given us some sort of blocking to other pitches. The pitch that was given was open and our daughter was constantly walking around everywhere. This was the reason why we had paid for the larger one purely for her. There was no communication from your side to let us know you was downgrading us to a smaller pitch. Yes we requested if we was to come early if it would be possible. However no communication was made and that is why we came much later. For the manager to say well we requested for early time so that was the reason he gave us what he did was unfair as it should have been communicated and should of made us aware of this. Further the manager had lied to us on the evening of arrival when it was questioned whether this pitch was the 10 x10m as booked and he stated it was. He also stated this in the morning when questioned about the size. Our motorvan was 7.3m long and when measured up in parking it it definately was not the 10m as told it was. We paid high price for the pitch and we chose your location for a specific reason for our daughter to be able to play. You had sold our pitch to someone else without our knowledge and this is unacceptable practice. You cannot just do that. The owner of the place should have morals as to what was paid and the fairness of this. The owner says well we had requested to come early but he then punishes us by not giving us the pitch we had paid for as he had already sold it to someone else. We feel you have ruined our holiday as this was not what we paid We came to your site for a reason and the manager failed to understand this. We are not happy at all and the way he came across very aggressive. He said to us that we should leave and he will refund us. The fact that he knows everywhere is booked up he knew we had no choice but to stay put. We have taken pictures for proof. How we was treated by the owner was unnacceptable and embarrassing in front of the neighbours. We feel a refund for the full amount is due since we did not get what we paid for as booked. This was completely unfair and no email or anything was sent from you to say you will downgrade us. Also, you they didn’t not provide us with any picnic table as requested and you gave us no electricity even after contacting you and calling to leave a voice message. We had to find a new electric point ourselves. We had no Ariel Connection and no cable connection so kids did not watch any tv. We had tv but no connection. We had no access to WiFi as no one told us. Not happy at with the service to be honest. No one bothered to give us a welcome as to where to find things or to connect. We just had the owner who was unhelpful. Be aware of how this company operates. And don’t bother to book for the large pitch as you’ll end up with a small one and book your one to someone else.

The site is well situated between Marigny and Sion. It has many facilities, especially for families. The owners and staff are welcoming and friendly. The premium VIP pitch we were renting featured an "en suite" cabin which was clean, well heated and contained not only bathroom fixtures but also a fridge and cooking hotplates. The whole site is spotlessly clean and fully equipped for all types of campers.
Next door to the reception is the restaurant of "Relais de la Sarvaz". The staff here were kind and attentive and allowed us to enter with our dog, but more importantly we enjoyed a delicious dinner.Thoroughly recommended.

    Disliked:

It was very very wet when we arrived and our motorhome got stuck in the muddy ground in the pitch area assigned to us. We had to request assistance for a tow out the next day from the management who, to be fair, immediately arranged for the local farmer to bring his tractor to our rescue. However it would be an improvement if the motorhome pitches had at least an area of partial paving or hard core and not only grass.

A beautiful setting and a lot of work has gone into making the site look good. The facilities were clean and tidy and the kitchen and lounge with fridge and cooking facilities were really good. The shop was well stocked but like all of Switzerland quite expensive. Staff helpful and friendly and very accomodating when i asked to delay our arrival.

Local attractions

If you’re here in summer, this is excellent walking territory, catering for both hardcore mountain hikes and gentler rambles through the vineyards or along the banks of the Rhône, which passes by the village. Those who prefer pedal power can hit the mountain bike trails or borrow bikes for leisurely local pottering (free for up to four hours).

Come by in winter months and it’ll take you around half an hour to reach the pistes of Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon or Champéry. There’s a skating rink and a hair-raising toboggan track in La Tzoumaz, 25 minutes away, and the area has plenty of signposted cross country skiing routes too.

Whatever the season, the waters are warm at the thermal baths in Saillon itself and Ovronnaz (a 20-minute drive away), and there’s culture to take in at Isérables Museum and Martigny’s Fondation Pierre Gianadda.
