Set in the mountains around an hour's drive away from Madrid, Camping-Bungalows Monte Holiday is a splendid place to lay your head if you like an active break. There's a large number of things to do on site – it's got a swimming pool, a playground and table tennis, along with football, basketball and volleyball courts to keep sporty types happy. Activities are organised for kids, teens and adults during the summer holidays and on weekends throughout the year. For an extra cost, during summer weekends only, guests can book onto adventure activities on site or join a guided farm visit. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to fill your time within the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, half an hour's drive away. You might also like the sound of the El Fogón de Guille bar-restaurant (open at the weekend and throughout the summer only), which serves tasty and traditional Spanish food. Excellent for sharing a simple meal with the family, it has a highly scenic terrace overlooking the mountains, and there is live music every Saturday night throughout the year.

Liked to be honest nothing special overall, the biggest plus is probably the location close to madrid

Disliked the Old and small toilets, the lack of a plan of the camping wich caused huge problems with finding our spot

Liked Within a lovely mountain location surrounded by an oak forest, this campsite is a great opportunity for hiking.
The facilities include everything you want, from a small market to a restaurant (may be closed in Autumn -Winter), a very clean toilets-showers building and many adventure activities for kids. It's also dog friendly.
Customer service is efficient and amicable.
There are several accommodation options, including some lovely treehouses.
Finally, it felt really safe.

Disliked The lower pitch court had a very high amount of flies (mid September), but mostly during the afternoon. They could be annoying to humans and dogs

Route directions

From Madrid, take the A1 direction Burgos come off at Exit 69 Rascafría/Lozoya. Turn off at the 8.8km marker (just after the bridge) in the direction Gargantilla del Lozoya. You will find the campsite on the left.

Local attractions

Biking, hiking, horse and donkey riding… all are easy to access from Camping-Bungalows Monte Holiday – or you could strap on your goggles and summon your nerve to have a paraglide among the area's most marvellous mountains. Or go hiking in the Sierra Norte's lush and lovely Lozoya valley, along cameraworthy scenery, ancient monuments and old Spanish towns and villages. The main route is the one linking Rascafría and El Cuadrón, starting at the Puente del Perdón bridge in front of the monastery of Santa María del Paular – recommended others are the Los Batanes route, and the routes of the shrine of Santa Ana, La Concepción and La Fuensanta. Buitrago del Lozoya, Horcajo de la Sierra, Robregordo and La Acebeda are additional scenic spots in the area for leisurely activities and leisurely family lunches.
