  • Family-friendly Jaén site with stunning Sierra del Segura views
  • Almaventura sports hub next door; historic Letur five minutes’ drive
  • Swimming pool and family activities in summer; riding schools nearby
Tucked into a mountain setting and surrounded by crystal-clear springs, Camping Las Fuentes de Letur is just the spot to enjoy a few days of fresh air, relaxation and peace in Jaén’s Sierra del Segura foothills. Far from the noise and stress of everyday life, at this family-friendly site you’ll wake each morning to the soothing sound of running water and birdsong.  Spacious, tree-shaded pitches shade you from the sun in the hottest months, and all have access to electricity. They are a few steps away from the hot showers and laundry service; there’s also a designated dog park where you can exercise your pets off lead. Kids can order burgers as you eat tapas and fideuà – a regional take on paella made with pasta – in the modern restaurant and bar. The best tables are out on the terrace, where you can soak up views over the forested hills. In high season, the pool opens and on-site activities are organised for the whole family – you can have a go on the mini climbing wall or via ferrata course. Around five minutes’ walk away is the historic village of Letur, where there are supermarkets, smart craft shops and a few restaurants.

Local attractions

You can sometimes catch glimpses of golden eagles and griffon vultures circling high above the site; you may be able to spot them as you hike and marvel at stunning mountain views in the Ardal y Tinjarra Microreserve (50 minutes’ drive). Calares del Río Mundo y de la Sima Natural Park (an hour) is another popular hiking spot, also known for its bizarre rock formations, deep ravines and tumbling waterfalls. If it’s more high-octane sports you prefer, Almaventura (next door to the site) is a hub that can organise guided kayaking, canyoning and zipwiring adventures. You might also like to explore the dramatic alpine countryside on horseback – there are several riding schools within about 15 minutes’ drive. The winding alleyways of historic Letur (five minutes’ walk) lead up to several viewing points with stunning views over Sierra del Segura peaks, while the storied Church of the Assumption is a noteworthy mix of Renaissance and Gothic architecture, with a fine star-vaulted roof and jewel-coloured stained-glass panels.
