  • At the foot of the Pyrenees with spectacular views
  • Pools, hot tub and a sauna
  • Five minutes' drive from Ainsa
Cor, these are some cracking views. Camping Peña Montañesa has set itself in a highly scenic and handy locale for scenic Spanish hols, for it's by the Cinca river and at the foot of the Pyrenees with highly special vistas whichever way you look. (And the weather's pretty considerate/special around these here parts too.) Settle down here to relax among those views or head off into the great outdoors on active days and excursions; facilities are well sorted for all sorts of guests and include a seasonal outdoor pool, a heated indoor pool with a hot tub and a sauna, and a multisports area for tennis, football and basketball. All facilities are set near the site entrance. Peña Montañesa has a restaurant and bar (with free wifi in the bar area), a supermarket, and well-maintained amenities blocks with free hot showers, a small baby-changing room and facilities for disabled guests. And another aspect of Peña Montañesa's cracking locale? The town of Aínsa is five minutes' drive away too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location to Ainsa town, which is about 3k from site. Good size pitch was level, hedged, part shaded with water nearly and electricity immediately on the pitch. Restaurant good value, great fresh produce and large portions. Wine and beer, all at very reasonable prices. The toilets were modern and clean. Deluge head showers had hot water. Swimming pool and proximity to the river and walking routes.

Disliked: The camper car water point behind reception could be better arranged to ensure no risk of any cross contamination of fresh water hose being used to clean a chemical toilet. The swimming pool would need more maintenance and cleaning. The shop could be better stocked.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We have quite a large tent and the campsite had pitches to suit every size. Most pitches were shaded which was a blessing against the 35 - 40 degree heat. The on-site restaurant/cafe served a variety of food all reasonably priced. The staff couldn't have worked harder or been more friendly. Despite our limited Spanish we were always served with a smile and acknowledgement that we had tried to converse in the local language. On arriving and leaving we were given a complimentary bottle of wine from the local region which was a very nice touch. Shower facilities were cleaned regularly and were well maintained. The campsite is well organised and equipped with swimming pools, washing machines drying facilities a supermarket and a daily kids club for those with younger children. Overall we had an amazing stay and would definitely return.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The views, proximity to great hikes and river swimming spots. The heated pool was great for the kids. Ablutions were hot and clean.

Disliked: Motion sensor lights right outside our tent affected our sleep.

Local attractions

Ainsa, the main town in the Aínsa-Sobrarbe area, is five minutes' drive from Camping Peña Montañesa and has an eleventh-century castle and twelfth-century church as its main mountain-surrounded sights. On top of that, the site is perfectly placed for exploring the Pyrenees, and for the hiking, birdwatching, and rock climbing of the nearby Ordesa y Monte Perdido national park. Within a 50-minute drive is Barbastro, the city at the junction of the Cinca and Vero rivers, and an hour and a half by car will take you to the city of Lleida, one of the oldest towns in Catalonia.
