- Adults-only glamping 15 minutes’ drive from Archidona in Andalusia
- Málaga museums 50 minutes’ drive; Costa del Sol beaches an hour
- Luxurious geodesic domes with stunning mountain and olive grove views
With mountains and olive groves all around, the scenery at El Refugio del Indio could hardly be more Andalusian if it tried. Combine these spectacular landscapes with the stylish luxury of the adults-only geodesic domes at this rural glampsite, and you’ve got a recipe for total and utter relaxation.
Set 15 minutes’ drive from the ‘white town’ of Archidona in the Málaga region, the high-end domes have a stylish design, kingsize beds with quality linens all supplied, plenty of storage, a compact dining table and splendid ensuite bathrooms with marble fittings and a large walk-in shower. Each dome comes with a minibar, air conditioning and a motorised transparent roof for stargazing, as well as a private terrace with vistas across the serried ranks of olive groves.
Around the site are sun-trap chill-out areas, a Tulum-style swimming pool, and a communal kitchen where you can cook local cuisine. If you absolutely have to catch up on work, there’s a zone with chargers and wifi for nomad commuters, and when romance is in the air, there’s also a viewing point strategically placed in a heart-shaped bower – perhaps the spot for a proposal?

Local attractions
Experienced hikers, get your boots on and head off to explore Peña de los Enamorados (20 minutes’ drive), a limestone mini-mountain steeped in legend. You also have easy access to many gentler walks, like the Cortijo de La Catreana (15 minutes) or the Realenga de Archidona (20 minutes), both with far-reaching views over olive groves. You can cycle both routes too.
The Málaga coastline with its famed Costa del Sol beaches is around an hour away by car. Make a day of it lying on the sand at lively Torremolinos (55 minutes) and Benalmádena (an hour), or take a trip into Málaga (50 minutes) to check out its exceptional art museums. If you have time for only one, make it the splendid Picasso Museum.
For a further taster of Andalusian culture, explore the narrow streets and traditional architecture of Archidona (15 minutes), making sure to see the ornate interior of the Iglesia de la Victoria; head up to the castle for stunning views over the town’s rooftops. If time is on your side, you could also spend the day exploring the ethereal palaces and gardens of the Alhambra in Granada (an hour) too.
