With a splendid setting among the arid Alhama de Almería foothills, Camping El Palomar is a prettily landscaped site where you can chill out amid semi-desert and mountain scenery. Views from the hardstanding pitches take in the Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory.
Keep the kids busy playing pool and air hockey in the recreation zone, or head to the swimming pool for a few laps and more of those stunning views. There’s also lots of green space where you can have a kick around with a ball.
Everything is taken care of catering-wise on site: there’s freshly baked bread available morning and afternoon, you can keep stocked up at the mini-supermarket, and you have a vending machine for snacks and drinks in the bar, where you can pick up takeaways if cooking’s not on the agenda. Otherwise, you can spark up your barbecue.
And as far as practicalities go, there are communal showers and loos, a laundry room and electric-car charging points. The site is dog-friendly (they even have a dog-washing area) and there are country walks straight from the pitches (which all have an electric hook-up). If you need any sightseeing advice, just go along to reception – they’re bound to have the answer for you there.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.- The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/06 et 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).
