Local attractions
As well as fishing, activities that can be arranged on site include sunrise, brunch and sunset cruises down the Komati River, and birdwatching along the river banks. You can join stargazing sessions on clear nights for spectacular celestial displays, and there are often braais held overlooking the river.
Entry into the world-renowned Kruger National Park is from the Crocodile Bridge Gate (25 minutes’ drive), so you’re well placed for guided wildlife safaris with the chance to see giraffes, elephants, zebras and big cats thriving in their protected environment. You can also drive across the border to the Mbuluzi Game Reserve (90 minutes) in Eswatini for self-guided hikes or cycle rides through forest and grassland, hopefully spotting giraffes and antelope along the way.
For more sedate pursuits, there’s a prestigious nine-hole golf course at Kambaku (15 minutes) on the outskirts of Komatipoort (10 minutes), which has a scattering of shops as well as restaurants serving regional dishes.
