Space, shade and stunning scenery – sound a bit like your wishlist when seeking a spot to settle in? Take a look, then, at Uitspan Baviaanskloof, a smart Eastern Cape site at the western end of the Baviaanskloof river and 45 minutes’ drive from Willowmore.
The surrounds here are quite spectacular, with river, mountain and valley views to look out over. Stare at them from a suitable spot at this smart and spacious site – there are plenty of lapas scattered around the place if you need a bit of respite from the sun. Alternatively, set forth for a closer look by heading out on one of the hiking trails that run nearby (bring binoculars – there’s often good birdwatching to be had along the way).
It can get a bit warm around these parts from time to time, but fear not, for there are options to help you cool off easily. You may like to plunge into the small swimming pool on site or follow the trail down to the dam to dive into the river. If you choose the latter, make sure to have a ride on the rope slide before dipping in.
All self-respecting South African hols involve a braai or few, of course, and the folk here have made it easy by providing braai areas all around the place for guests to cook on – all you’ll need to do is remember to scoop up supplies at some point when you’re swinging by a supermarket.

You’ve come here for a bit of bush time, right? Start by stretching your legs on the two hiking trails that run through the surrounds. Take your pick from the Houtkloof trail, which takes in rock pools and native trees, and the Koepel trail, which runs past some intriguing rock formations and overhangs. Either way, make sure to pack a camera, as you’ll no doubt be able to snap some stunning pics.
Arty types may also like to go out in search of the San rock art that’s still preserved in a cave nearby; those with more of a thirst for adventure might prefer to strap in to a four wheel drive and head out for a scenic off-road drive.
If you’re headed on towards the coast, it’ll take you between two and three hours to drive (through some splendid scenery) to the beach at Plettenberg Bay, the big beasts at Knysna Elephant Park or the adventure sports hub of Storms River.

If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancellations and for your property/injury whilst away.
