Camp Eucalyptus

Grab the walking boots – or the bike – and head for Jovsi Natural Park (five minutes’ drive) for hikes through protected marshland along the Sotla River. While you’re there, keep your eyes open for rare white-tailed eagles and black storks. Head for Mokrice Castle (20 minutes) to play golf or have a splash around on slides at the swimming pool, while Grad Brežice castle (10 minutes) is open for tours of its brightly frescoed interior and displays of ancestral portraits. Taking the ferry across the Sava River from Mostec leads you to the spa facilities, daredevil water rides and lazy river at Terme Čatež (15 minutes). Camp Eucalyptus is close to the border with Croatia, so if you fancy a day out in the capital city of Zagreb (50 minutes’ drive) you can expect baroque-era architecture and restaurant-lined streets. Don’t miss the eccentric displays in the Museum of Broken Hearts and do hang around until nightfall to experience some of the city’s legendary nightlife along Tkalčićeva street.
