  • Peaceful, family-friendly site in the village of Cisnădioara
  • A 15-minute drive to Sibiu; 35 minutes to Ocna Sibiulu lakes
  • Bar and play area on site; gorgeous mountain views from pitches
Active holiday or relaxation time? Whichever it is that brings you to the Transylvania region, you’ll be in a good location when you stay at Camping Ananas. This family-friendly site is in the village of Cisnădioara, a small place that’s become a popular hub for adventures in the surrounding landscapes of mountains, forests and plains. In fact, you’ll be able to get started on admiring those landscapes from right here on site, as the views from the pitches here are pretty fabulous – particularly at sunset. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted on site, so get settled in for long alfresco evenings taking it all in. A fridge and freezer are provided for you to stash your barbecue supplies and drinks in, and there are plenty of other handy bits on site too. Showers, toilets, a washing-up area, a chemical disposal point and a wifi service are all available for guest use, and there’s a play area where the youngsters can let off some steam. Grownups, meanwhile, can chill out at the site’s bar – it’s a lovely spot for a chat with your fellow guests or perhaps an open-air movie as well as a cool drink or two. It’s the relaxed rural atmosphere that gives this place its character – but this is not the remote location you might imagine, as the centre of the attractive city of Sibiu is only a 15-minute drive away.

Local attractions

A visit to Sibiu (15 minutes’ drive) should certainly be on the cards here – the medieval city centre is lovely for a wander, with various intriguing sights like the Bridge of Lies and Stairs Tower as well as the ‘Eyes of Sibiu’ (the rooftop windows resembling eyelids). There are also several good museums and a zoo to visit, and some great cafés and places to eat tucked away around the historic squares. Heading out into the countryside, another popular outing takes you to Ocna Sibiulu (35 minutes), a series of saltwater lakes said to have healing properties (some are so salty you can even float on them). It’s easy to spend a few hours here, as the park has food options and space to sunbathe, plus mud lakes to enhance your ‘natural spa’ experience. Elsewhere nearby, you may like to take a dip into local crafts at "Astra" National Museum Complex or Cisnădie Textile Museum (both 10 minutes) or stroll around the pretty village of Sibiel (half an hour) before visiting its Priest Zosim Oancea Museum, home to a large colourful collection of icons on glass.
