Who's up for a whole load of frolics and family days in the Netherlands? With hiking, biking and waterways close by, a swimming pool on site – and a setting a mega-easy five kilometres from a tiptop dinosaur park? Have a stay at big, fun and friendly Camping Wedderbergen in the Groningen province if this ticks all your holiday boxes, in a land of ancient forests and lakes, river valleys and animal parks. The setting first of all, of course: Camping Wedderbergen has its own private lake with a sandy beach and play area exclusively for guests' use. Permits to go fishing on site can be bought for a nominal fee at reception, and fishing tournaments for all ages are held on a regular basis for those who like to feel competitive (recommended…). There's also an indoor play area for kids up to the age of 12 with slides, trampoline zones, a toddler zone, a power tower and a climbable 'volcano'. Around the area, hire a bike or canoe on site to explore the local cycle paths and waterways, or potter along over 30 hiking trails running through the forests and river valleys of Westerwolde. Plenty of popular family attractions are within easy driving distance too, like Dino Park Tenaxx, the Watersports Centre Veendam and Wildlands Adventure Zoo. Wedderbergen also has a big heated indoor pool with one slide and a large outdoor water playground with more slides, plus a restaurant and a convenience store selling essentials, draught beer and freshly baked bread and croissants. The modern amenities on site include an accessible heated toilet and shower block (with a separate parent and baby washroom) and a launderette with washing machines and tumble dryers. Free wifi is also provided to guests.

Friendly, helpful staff at a clean, well-kept site. Kids loved indoor/outdoor play areas & water slides. Indoor pool with slide a big hit. Food plentiful & good. Most happy, though a few wanted more loos. Staff were brilliant in bad weather.

Nach einem kleinen Sturm Regen und Gewitter, haben die Mitarbeiter Parzelle angefahren und Hilfe angeboten wenn etwas zerstört wurde.
Das habe ich noch bei keinem Campingplatz erlebt TOP

Liked Excellent facilities, indoor pool with slide, interactive gaming indoor play area kids loved (age 7,11 & 14)
Outdoor water slides got turned on on the hot days but be careful as it becomes very slippery
Food was incredible - kid size pizzas are plenty big enough for adults. We got the bucket of chips for 4 ppl and still had over half left there was loads!

Local attractions

Take a bike or canoe out along the local paths or waterways, wander the local hiking paths or stick around the site for basking, swimming and fishing at the Camping Wedderbergen private lake and beach. After all that, it's a five-kilometre drive to the dinosaurs, dino hunt, mini archaeological digs and assault course of Dino Park Tenaxx, and about 21 kilometres to the boating, wakeboarding, waterskiing and more of Watersports Centre Veendam. Wildlands Adventure Zoo is 45 kilometres away, at Emmen. Also an excellent option for families (and history geeks) is the village of Bourtange, 15 kilometres away, home of a famed and restored 16th-century star-shaped fort and open-air museum telling the story of the fort, the village and its role in the Eighty Years' War and onwards. A tourist information centre is in the village if you want to go on from here around the region of Westerwolde. Groningen city is just under 50 kilometres away for day trips, or you could go and see the doe-eyed inhabitants at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre, 73 kilometres away in Pieterburen.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.
