Spectacular, peaceful alpine views! Friendly staff, great food at the on-site restaurant. Clean facilities, mostly level pitches with good privacy. Some tight access. Want to return! Lack of motorhome grey waste & poor lighting noted.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked We can’t fault this special place! So many thoughtful touches, and that view from the terrace… WOW! We walked through the trees to the fabulous Plan d’Eau (never seen an inflatable like that before!) and then into the village for a yummy lunch, and took the free mini train back up the mountain “home”! Our son (nearly 6) loved the ball pit den, the sand pit, and feeding the goats and chickens. A little piece of heaven.

Hutte Marmotte shepherd's hut (two person)

Liked The pods are really nice and cozy, equipped with every comfort like lights, electricity and beds, also the shared bathroom and shower are incredibly clean and the restourant is good. We initially had a little problem with wasps but the stuff fixed it quickly. The camping is located at walkable distance from the city centre where you can find bars, restourants and supermarkets which is great, otherwise you can just drive around those beautiful mountain roads and visit Col de la Croix-de-Fer or even Grenoble like we did. We had a very nice stay but the view is really to die for! The landscapes of the French Alps are something special and that alone is well worth the trip. Thank you very much!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Friendliness staff, the beautiful location with great views of the surroundings and hiking options directly from the camping without needing a car, great restaurant, the quality of the facilities, playing options for children including goats and chickens, trampoline, hammocks, little library.

Disliked Not disliking, but just details to improve on this otherwise very recommendable camping: temperature regulation of the showers, speed of Wi-Fi, and more frequents waste collection (or bigger bins).

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Amazing views from all the pitches! We arrived in the rain but the restaurant served as a welcomed refuge.

We ate dinner in the resturant which was fabulous and the owners / staff extremely friendly. After a long drive and staying at serveral campsites in previous days we both felt this one had been our best one yet!

Local attractions

Were walking boots the first thing into the suitcase? There are plenty of options around here for hikers and walkers of all kinds… start with a three-hour hike from Col de la Croix de Fer (10 minutes’ drive from base) to Etendard glacier; explore the trails, climbs and via ferrata an hour away in Écrins National Park, or venture to Vizille to pick up the 325-kilometre Route Napoléon from Grenoble to Cannes. It’s easy to stick to outdoor excursions as long as you’re willing to spend a little time in the car – there’s paragliding 45 minutes away, treetop adventuring in Écrins National Park (at Vénosc), and swimming and watersports an hour and a half away at the Laffrey lakes. Have a different kind of adventure (through time) with explores of the cloisters and crypt of Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste 40 minutes away in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, and stick to the past with tours at the spectacular Château de Touvet, the museum of the French Revolution in Château de Vizille and the notorious fortress of Château de Miolans (nicknamed ‘the Bastille of the Alps’), all within an hour and a half. Finding some local delicacies to nab as souvenirs won’t be too difficult either: wander into Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves for a glimpse behind closed doors – and some essential sampling of wares – at the Fromagerie Coopérative Laitière de las Vallées des Arves.
