Swimming pool and sun terrace

General

  • Peaceful family-friendly site 800 metres from the beach
  • Close to the Vélodyssée cycle route, with bike hire available
  • Swimming pool, paddling pool, pétanque court, playground and snack bar

Peaceful pine-scented pitches and a beach within pottering distance – what a fab spot for a family hol. Camping des Pins is in Notre-Dame-de-Monts, a 20-minute stroll from the town centre and a 15-minute amble from the beach, along a path lined with more of those pine trees.

It’s a particularly fine beach here (four kilometres long and one of the Vendée’s very best, some might venture) but there’s also plenty to keep you occupied on site too, including a heated pool and paddling pool with sun terrace and nifty retractable cover to ensure splashing can continue whatever the weather.

Away from the water, there are games galore at the pétanque court, multisports court and ping pong table, and a playground where small sorts can scamper about. To preserve a peaceful vibe on site, there's no evening entertainment programme here; however, in the summer a kids' club runs activities in the mornings and there's a daily aqua gym class.

It’s not all go go go, though – if you’ve come away for a quieter time you can peruse the selection of books and board games in the library, and/or settle on the bar terrace for leisurely drinks and snacks.

It had everything we needed, a pool, snack bar, toilets/showers, about 5min bike ride to the nearest very quiet beac, however a bigger beach with cafes, icecreams etc was a 10min bike ride away along a woodland path so very safe for kids.

We also had with us our 20 month old granddaughter, who wax universally adored by all other campers in our vicinity.
Liked the facilities, the location, (beaches, towns, and cycle routes) the friendliness and politeness of all the staff.

    Disliked:

The Snackbar was understaffed causing us to leave without even seeing a menu, after a thirty minute wait BUT that said, they were busier than usual due to a petanque tournament. The general standard of there food, pricing, willingness to be of service, and value was excellent.

Great smaller site, good facilities, close to fantastic coast.08/15/2019

Pitches are a nice size with hedges and trees separating, if you have a very large tent it might be worth mentioning it when booking as some pitches are bigger than others. Toilet facilities are good, some showers are better than others but generally warm and ok, cleaned regularly and never smelly! (Take your own loo roll though!)
Pool was lovely, generally not too busy, clean and good temperature. Area around the pool is a total sun trap too. The pool bar and cafe is adequate - usual breakfast stuff fresh every morning and decent chips and pizza if you don’t feel like cooking. Staff are friendly and helpful. All noise seemed to politely die down around 11 which was nice. Beaches in the area are just beautiful and lots to choose from, from quiet and untouched to busier with water sports and cafes. This bit of coast seemed much less windy than further down so very easy to sit on the beach all day! If you can, take bikes, the cycle paths are excellent. Local restaurants lovely but are fairly tourist-y - mainly pizzarias and moules-frites, but having teenagers, that wasn’t a problem for us.

    Disliked:

Genuinely nothing negative to say about this site, but would say that the site blurb implies that it’s very close to the beach but it’s actually a 10-15 minute walk (albeit a lovely walk along sandy lanes through the pine forest).

Friendly owners / managers, Violette spoke very good English compared to our not very good French (although we try) and was very helpful and polite nothing was too much trouble.
The site was busy with the children enjoying themselves. Any noise at night seemed to shut off around 11pm. The bar was sufficient for a meal and a drink although a little small. Didn't try the pool did other things looked OK.
Walking distance to the sea with miles of beach. Visit St Jen La Mont just 8Km away. Plenty cycling routes around the area.
Facilities adequate for size of site, showers OK plenty hot water, cleaned regularly, loo paper in some but not others not a problem.
    Over all great stay.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike just a heads up that access at the site entrance could be a little tight for larger caravans but navigable with care.

Local attractions

This is a very bike-friendly area, with plenty of quiet, flat roads and cycle paths nearby, and bike hire on site in summer. The Vélodyssée Atlantic cycle route runs alongside the beach – you may not fancy tackling all 1,200 kilometres of it, but it's a good way to get to some of the nearby resorts like Saint-Jean-de-Monts, or to the island of Noirmoutier (about half an hour away).

Nip down to Notre-Dame-de-Monts for a whole heap of family activities. By bike you’re just a few minutes away from the Biotopia nature reserve and interactive exhibition, the colourful Wind Garden and all sorts of watersports at Pôle Nautique sailing centre (including sailing, canoeing and paddleboarding).

A little further afield, it’s a 10-minute drive to the treetop trails of Explora Parc, or around 50 to a really wild day out at Planète Sauvage safari park. Should you wish to see more of the coast, it’s a half-hour drive to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie for boat trips to the cliffs and coves of lovely Yeu island.
