May we tell you about a campsite in the Loire-Atlantique? A mere 250 metres from the sea and a nifty holiday base from which to explore medieval southern Brittany, the seaside resort of La Baule and yet more long stretches of Brittany sand? Mais oui, we insist. As you may have twigged by now, this Loire-Atlantique loveliness is at Camping Domaine de Pont-Mahé, a peaceful wildlife haven of a campsite in the grand old town of Guerande. The sandy beaches of La Baule are near the site, and the Guérande peninsula and its salt marshes are easily accessible nearby: we hear there's some French birdwatching around these salty parts too. Camping Domaine de Pont-Mahé's facilities include a large pool, a bar, a restaurant, a well-equipped playground, a food shop and free wifi. Live entertainment for all ages is organised by the campsite team. For amenities, Camping Domaine de Pont-Mahé has – among more – a clean and modern toilet and shower block, a launderette and a washing-up area.

Local attractions

To le beach, of course… the closest sands to Camping Domaine de Pont-Mahé are a short stroll away at 250 metres and several other beaches are within easy reach, such as those at La Baule/La Baule-Escoublac, a seaside resort of the old-school variety with a 12-kilometre stretch of sand. (This is where many of le high society hang out too, so do wave and holler if you see anyone famous.) This part of the Atlantic coastline has folks flocking to it for watersports like kitesurfing, windsurfing and kayaking; on land, plenty of Vélocéan project bike paths are along the coastline. The Guerande peninsula and its salt marshes are un definite must for their craggy landscape (do snap pics), their birdwatching at the Brière Natural Park, and for the medieval town of Guerande, a splendid city that must be seen for its well-preserved rampart and its four gates. Pénestin, Saint-Nazaire and Nantes are also easily accessible from the site.
