  • Small, family-friendly site in the Avesnois Regional Natural Park
  • A 10-minute drive from EuroVelo 3 and 20 minutes from Maroilles
  • Snack bar, playground, pétanque, table tennis and play area on site
Small, green and family-friendly, Camping au Bol d’Air is a 'life project' thoughtfully put together by two keen campers and hikers. Their love for camping and nature is evident; the site has lots of lush, green space, a terrace and a covered area where guests can gather to exchange tips or bury their heads in a good book. It’s also rather handily located in the Avesnois Regional Natural Park, putting it within easy reach of hiking trails and a 10-minute drive from two of its most popular cycling trails: the long-distance EuroVelo 3 (also called La Scandibérique) and the Avesnois greenway. Families and friends should both appreciate the nice range of on-site facilities, which covers the likes of pétanque, table tennis and games of your own choosing at the multi-sports ground. Send the kids to the playground, before fitting in a quick lunch or dinner at the snack-bar, which dishes out snacks like paninis, chips and pizza. Creative, musical and sports activities are also arranged on site on the weekends… That's if you're not already too busy tasting the creamy cow’s cheese produced in the riverside village of Maroilles, 20 minutes’ drive away, or visiting the botanical gardens in Sains-du-Nord, five minutes’ drive away from the site. You might want to save the cheese tasting for after any big activities, of course; watersports, tree climbing and walking are all well-liked around Val-Joly Lake, which is only a 15-minute drive from the site.

Local attractions

Camping au Bol d’Air has a handy position in the centre of the Avesnois Regional Natural Park, surrounded by woodlands and farmlands, and never too far from hiking or cycling trails and other outdoor activities. High-energy days can be spent taking buggy rides through the forest from the outdoor activity centre in Beugnies (10 minutes’ drive) or forming a fierce team at the paintballing centre in Solre-le-Château (15 minutes). If you’re looking for lighter activities suited to younger children, there is an adventure maze at Labyrinthe Aventure (10 minutes) near Liessies; the commune’s abbey, church and park are also nice for a short stroll. You’ll need to plan ahead to visit the former 15th-century Castle of Trélon (15 minutes); guided tours run throughout the day to look at the old tapestries, artworks and Sèvres porcelain. Perhaps you’d like to check out a few of the museums in the Avesnois Regional Natural Park, too. There are glass exhibits at the Musverre (10 minutes), running machinery from the Fourmies textile history at the MTVS (15 minutes) eco museum and Roman ruins at the Bavay ancient Forum (35 minutes). Artworks by Henri Mattise are the focal point at the Matisse Museum (45 minutes) in Le Cateau-Cambrésis.
