  • Adults-only treetop accommodation in a sheltered forest park
  • A 20-minute walk from the centre of Fécamp; Étretat 20 minutes' drive
  • Adventure activities like paintball, high ropes and archery available
There's certainly something special about pitching up among trees – the way the leaves look in the evening light, the quiet rustling of the forest floor… At Woody Park, a sheltered forest site 20 minutes' walk from Fécamp, forest fans can (quite literally) take their woodland breaks to the next level. As you'll see from the pictures of this Normandy park, overnight stays here involve sleeping in tents suspended from the canopy. You'll need to be fairly good with heights to check in here, but the tents have been set up at different levels (between two and eight metres off the ground). Some are high in the trees and require you to climb a ladder, while others are closer to the ground and connected to terra firma by a rope bridge. For reasons fairly obvious, you'll need to be over 16 to take up residence at Woody Park. You will see younger kids around the site during the day – they're welcome to come and take part in many of the adventurous goings-on like paintball, high ropes courses and archery that take place elsewhere in these woods (all of these are available to tent guests too, of course). This is a very spacious park and you'll feel like you have plenty of room for yourself, but you may hear some background noise when the above activities get started (from around 10 am). A breakfast buffet is available here – something which may well help tempt you down from your nest and encourage you to join in on the action…

Local attractions

Fécamp (20 minutes' walk/five minutes' drive) is a classic Norman seaside town with brilliant Channel views and a pebble beach. After taking a dip or admiring the lighthouse from a nearby jetty, gastronomy buffs can take themselves off to the fish market for fresh fruits de mer while art fans peruse the exhibits on show at the Palais Bénédictine museum. If it's a bit chilly for open-air dips when you visit there's also a well-maintained indoor pool. Étretat (20 minutes), an attractive town down the coast, is far-famed in these parts for its cliffs, especially the gorgeous Porte d'Aval arch and L'Aiguille, a 70 metre stack of rock in the shape of a needle. For spectacular views over these and other geological formations, have a ramble around the foliage at Les Jardins d'Étretat. Other pretty towns nearby include Honfleur (50 minutes), a well-preserved port, and Pont-Audemer (an hour), a historic town on the river Risle. For shopping, modern art, theatre and sculpture, you'll want to head for the larger city of Le Havre (45 minutes).
