- Adults-only glamping next to the Chaux forest, in the Jura mountains
- Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans 20 minutes’ drive; Dijon 55 minutes
- Complimentary breakfast; wellness area with Jacuzzi; stargazing window
Here’s a top spot where to spend quality time with your beloved – whether relaxing (or hiking) in spectacular surroundings or snuggling close together to admire the night sky through a stargazing window. Le Havre de Chaux sits right next to the Chaux forest, in the Jura mountains of eastern France, almost halfway between Besançon (45 minutes’ drive) and Dijon (55 minutes).
The geodesic dome at this adults-only site is equipped with a large plush, comfortable double bed (all bedding provided), a kitchen corner (with kettle, coffee maker, microwave oven and fridge) and a dining table with views of the field – and of the deer that often roam in it at dusk. Both a woodburning stove and air conditioning are available, to ensure that no matter the season and the weather conditions, you can stay cosy (or cool). The bathroom facilities (outside the unit) consist of a composting toilet and a shower.
Significant benefits to staying here include the dedicated wellness area (with an indoor Jacuzzi) and the complimentary breakfast, a hunger-busting spread with buttery croissants, fresh baguettes and home-made jams, plus savoury options such as charcuterie and cheese. For other meals, you might want to check out the local dining scene or head to the village of Orchamps (five minutes) or to Dole (15 minutes) to stock up on picnic staples and microwaveables.

Local attractions
Dole (15 minutes' drive) has a pretty town centre of cobbled streets and stone buildings. The house where Louis Pasteur was born is now a museum dedicated to this 19th-century scientist, while the Museum of Fine Arts displays paintings from the 1500s to the present. The river Doubs and a series of canals are pretty destinations for a stroll.
The 18th-century Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans (20 minutes) is an elegant complex designed in a semi-circle shape. Five itineraries with interactive displays explore salt production and local traditions among other topics, while neatly arranged all around the site are well-maintained gardens with colourful perennials and medicinal plants.
In Dijon (55 minutes), check out the Museum of Burgundian Life, housed in a medieval monastery, and the Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne, with its collection of fine arts and the Tower of Philippe le Bon. Climb the 316-step spiral staircase to the terrace for splendid views across the city.
