- Eco-friendly site in the middle of pretty green countryside
- A 20-minute walk from the historic hilltop town of Moncontour
- Barbecues, playground, e-bikes, common area with sofas and travel info
If you’re going eco on your next hol, do it surrounded by gorgeous green countryside at Camping La Tourelle. This environmentally-aware spot is around 1.5 kilometres from the narrow streets and half-timbered houses of the historic hilltop town of Moncontour in northern Brittany (a journey best tackled on an e-bike rented from reception).
Planning to indulge in plenty of peaceful pastimes alongside gentle cycle rides while on a hol here? Unwind at the heated indoor swimming complex (with a 25-metre pool, paddling pool, water jets and a Jacuzzi) less than a five-minute walk from the park, or stick to the grounds to cosy up on the sofas in the common room watching TV, playing board games and flicking through the books.
When you need to appease the appetite, bread, drinks and ice cream are for purchase at reception, which is also where to pick up leaflets stuffed with info on the local and regional area. Feel free to ask the staff here for travel tips too – they’re happy to answer all your burning tourism-related questions.
Barbecues are available for other meals and a playground’s set up to keep kids out of your hair while you cook over coals. The site also has a toilet block with showers and a coin-operated washing machine and dryer, plus drinking water taps are dotted around the grounds.

Local attractions
Other places to e-bike (or drive) towards in the surrounds include the handsome Château de Bogard (10 minutes in the car) and the artsy town of Lamballe (20 minutes) with its 18th-century mansions and historic buildings housing galleries and studios.
This spot’s also home to the Haras National de Lamballe stud farm, a six-hectare complex hosting tours of its stables, blacksmith’s forge and main tack room. After that, set off for the shores around Saint-Brieuc Bay (30 minutes), Dahouët port (35 minutes) and Erquy resort (40 minutes) if you’re seeking seaside times.
Alternatively, have aquatic activities inland at the Étang de Jugon fishing lake (35 minutes), or take to the English Channel by boat from Saint-Malo (an hour and 10 minutes) – ferries to the islands of Jersey and Guernsey, both places of wildlife-rich nature reserves, hidden beaches and historic villages, leave from this port town.
Don’t fancy setting foot off France? The medieval settlement of Dinan, 45 minutes, with a 14th-century keep and 15th-century Tour du Coëtquen artillery tower, is just as satisfying a spot for a day trip.
