- Family-friendly site on a fishing pond five minutes’ drive from Varzy
- La Charité-sur-Loire 35 minutes’ drive; Auxerre and Nevers an hour
- Dogs welcome; wild swimming; picnic table; bike storage; play area
Shaded grass pitches, a well-stocked fishing pond and plenty of fine wine – to celebrate a successful catch or to cheer yourself up if the carp don’t bite: now doesn’t that sound like a good plan for your holiday in France? At Camping Onlycamp Le Moulin Naudin, in Burgundy (hence the easy access to fine wines), all that can be yours.
Halfway between Auxerre and Nevers (an hour’s drive from either), this peaceful family- and dog-friendly site sits on the banks of the Etang du Moulin Naudin (also known as Etang de Varzy), where you can cast your line or indulge in a spot of wild swimming.
There’s a picnic table with views of the pond where you can have a picnic: a baguette, some cheese and a bottle of Burgundy – and your lunch is sorted. By the way, all those elements can be sourced in Varzy (five minutes’ drive, or a 20-minute walk). It might be a small town, but it has most things you’ll need during your stay: a bakery (think freshly baked baguettes and buttery croissants for breakfast…), a grocery shop, a supermarket and a handful of restaurants. There’s also the cabinet of curiosities that is the Musée Auguste Grasset, which displays Egyptian artefacts, musical instruments and weapons from the South Pacific.
In addition to a play area and a bike storage room that doubles as a library with books and board games, the site has a launderette, a toilet/shower block and a washing-up area.
