Camping

General

  • Peaceful holiday park 15 minutes' walk from medieval Duras
  • Within easy reach of Bergerac châteaux and wineries
  • Fishing lake, pool, miniature golf and table tennis

France – but of course – has some of the best food in the world. And wine. And how easy it is to source considerable amounts of both, particularly when you're in the Lot-et-Geronne a short drive from the châteaux and wineries around Bergerac and Saint-Émilion: eating (and drinking) options are plentiful around here.

Once fed and watered, consider your leisurely options on site. Of which there are also many, ranging from bathes and basks in and by the pool, to testing your skills/luck at the miniature golf course. There's a fishing pond to hand too, as well as a playground, pétanque court, table tennis and free wifi.

And then? Time for a further foodie adventure. Duras 750 metres away has several restaurants and cafés as well as a supermarket, some small speciality shops and a weekly market selling fresh produce and a range of local wines.

From the manager...

Dear Sean
So sorry you felt unhappy about your stay at Le Cabri Resort, as discussed when I called you, we have spent thousands on our restaurant kitchens and next in line were the shower block improvements. Due to the virus and zero income for 4 months, we have had to shelve the works until Spring 2021.
We are a rustique resort, nicely situated for touring our beautiful region with many many happy clients used to our quiet laid back location, sorry you thought we were a 5 star resort and left without paying for your stay.

Lovely site in a really nice quiet location. On site restaurant was very good, Steven and Sarah, the chef and waitress, were very friendly and welcoming and the food very good. All pitches have water and electric and a small hedge for separation.

    Disliked:

The pitches are very sloping and uneven chocks are needed for both side to side and front to back levelling.

The peace and quiet. Walking distance to very friendly village. Beautiful area of this French countryside, wonderful drive to get there.

    Disliked:

Didn't appear to have recycling. The pool was closed, however, it was end Sept, early Oct. Very poor WiFi in touring pitches.

From the manager...

Thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Sorry you had a few issues with the wifi and recycling, we do not advertise wifi on the pitches but we do have free wifi in the restaurant and terrace area. We will also be looking into recycling bins as at present we take it to the local recycling center. We close the pool at the end of September as the temperature can drop drastically at that time of year for an outdoor pool.
We look at all comments and value your feedback. That way we can improve.

Scenic site, would have been nice in its prime and could be if sorted out the management situation? Didnt see the facilities to comment.

    Disliked:

Every campsite we have visited in france during August has been busy, this campsite was completely empty and deserted. The electric hook up points did not work and looked dangerous with wiring - also concerning that the water is on the same station as the electric. The managers had apparently left that day for good and the maintenance man was in charge. We tried several hook up points and did ask for help but the maintenance man did not have access to all the facilities to fix this. Combined with the site being empty we decided better to move on elsewhere and found another lovely site nearby which was almost full! Lost our deposit as a result. I think they should stop taking bookings if they are unable to run competently.

From the manager...

I apologise for your bad experience. It was very unfortunate that due to circumstances out of our control you were not given the normal greeting that our holiday makers would always receive. I did get the electrician to look at the electrical points as it is a concern if wiring is dangerous. After a thorough check he found no faulty wiring. Also the saftey devices's were all working correctly.
Again I would like to apologies, as you can see from our reveiws we pride ouselves on being a friendly and welcoming site.
Kind regards
Wendy

Very nicely laid out. Peaceful location. Extremely well maintained site and clean facilities with soap provided in the bathrooms. Small but pleasant pool. Miniature golf and table tennis for a bit of family fun. Nearby village is interesting with good places to eat. The site also has a restaurant which we did not try.

    Disliked:

At the time of writing some staffing issues and the service from the English management was not as expected and seemed at times disorganised. As constructive feedback, in the morning there was no person up and about until well after 9 AM and the place nearly lost a customer because of this whom I showed where the office and the warden’s place was. A little organisation will make this an ideal site for a short visit on the way to the Med.

Local attractions

As well as its first-rate food and market options, Duras is well worth a look around (perhaps before partaking of too much of its food and market options...).

The town's main feature is the splendid fortress of Château de Duras, a medieval castle over the Dropt valley that was once the residence of the Dukes of Duras; prepare to spend some time here to see the ancient rooms and dungeons then to climb to the top of the tower for spectacular views of the countryside below. Events such as exhibitions and concerts take place throughout the year.

More historical hours can be had around the medieval archways of the bastide town of Eymet (20 minutes' drive) and the 13th-century Château de Rauzan (35 minutes), built high on a rock by England's King John. If the nippers' noses wrinkle at the notion of too much old stuff, animals, rides and zipwiring are all at Parc Du Griffon animal park 15 minutes' drive away at Caubon-Saint-Sauveur.

You'd do yourself a disservice not to sample a few wines around here, and see where they've come from. Tours, tastings and expert tutors are all on hand in the plethora of wineries around Bergerac (40 minutes' drive) and Saint-Émilion (50 minutes).
