In an area of the Landes known as the Gascony Moors, Camping Le Laha is a laidback family campsite set in acres of oak and pine trees. Often it’s only the sound of cicadas that will disturb the peace, and if you go quietly about your daily business, you may see deer and squirrels in the woods. Family-friendly touches on site include spacious pitches kept cool by the shade of trees, a dedicated baby space with a changing table and bathtub, and two play areas, one with a rocking horse and playhouse and one for older kids with a climbing frame, slide and rope bridge. There’s a library full of board games and you can borrow gear for table tennis or darts – if that’s not quite enough, a weekday kids’ club should keep youngsters entertained in high season. The pool and sun deck also await, for swimming, playing ball in the pool, reading, sunbathing and napping… close by is the snack bar, where adults can devote themselves to important activities like having an aperitif while keeping an eye on the kids in the pool. Breakfast is taken care of as you can pick up fresh bread, croissants and pastries from reception – just be sure to order the day before. And for the rest of the day, Chef Xavier is on hand to dole out pizzas, hamburgers and paninis, as well as sweet treats like ice cream and waffles. Keen to boost your alfresco cooking skills? Bag bits for the barbecue in Lesperon (five minutes’ drive or 35 minutes on foot).

A peaceful campsite with ample space amongst the pines. Friendly owner, nice pool, good restaurant. Generally clean facilities, though one review mentioned a slight toilet smell. Easy access, very relaxing.

Disliked Pongo una estrella por no se puede poner menos, llegamos un miércoles y nos íbamos el domingo, miércoles y jueves solo íbamos mi pareja y yo y el viernes sabado y domingo nos vendrían a acompañar 4 amigos mas, cuando lleguemos nos atendió la mujer de forma muy agradable y nos dio a elegir parcela, todo parecía bueno, al segundo dia mis amigos me dieron la noticia que iban a tener que traer su hija de 1 año, lo cual fuimos a informarles para que nos cobrarán el suplemento, ya nos pusieron malas caras y decían que por normativa sólo podrían 6 en la parcela, le indico que al final es un bebe y que pagamos el suplemento. Vino la mujer con el datáfono con 35 euros (a todo esto el señor resoplando todo el rato) le indique a la mujer me parecía caro ya que nos habia comprado 48 euros por 4 personas 2 noches y me quería cobrar 35 por dos noches de una bebe, finalmente nos indicó que nos daba la parcela de al lado para que pudiéramos estar todos. Lo vi correcto pero exagerado por un bebe de 1 año. El viernes cuando lleguaron mis amigos la mujer paso por ahi y nos indico que bajaramos el tono que la gente se iba a dormir (23:30h) pedimos disculpas y nos retiramos a dormir segun acabamos de comer, lo peor vino cuando el domingo a escasas 2 horas de irnos se presentó el dueño enfadado indicando que de quien era el coche que teníamos en la parcela, le indique que nuestro, empezó a señalar a mis amigos diciendo que quiern eran estas personas, nos empezó a decir que no podía haber 2 coches en una misma parcela, y le indicamos que su mujer ya nos habia visto el viernes y vio como estaban las tiendas y los coches, (mi amiga ya enfadada le indica, no vamos a pagar mas) y el "entiende" que le estaba insultando, a lo cual se enfada mas (la verdad que un señor muy poco agradable) finalmente le decimos que nos vamos en 2 horas y disculpándonos por ni siquiera saber por qué... si eres español no te recomiendo nada este camping, somos gente que frecuentas muchísimos camping y este esta en el peor sin duda. No volveremos.

Liked Ruhiger Campingplatz mit viel Natur drum herum. Saubere Sanitäranlagen und freundliche Betreiber. Wir hatten Glück und haben einen schattigen Platz unter hohen Bäumen mit Blick auf den Wald bekommen. Dort ließ es sich auch bei warmen Temperaturen gut aushalten und früh morgens konnten wir sogar ein Paar kleine Rehe beobachten.

Disliked Etwas abgelegen aber das war genau was wir wollten. Das WLAN kostet etwas, wer aber bewusst auf sein Handy verzichten möchte für den ist es perfekt.

Liked Camping muy tranquilo, parcelas muy espaciosas y de césped. Limpieza de 10, superlimpios los aseos duchas y fregaderos, las instalaciones parecían nuevas.

Liked We booked another couple of nights here on our way back through France. A wonderful time spent relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. Hospitality was first class as we dined in the restaurant and chatted with the owner about the local wildlife. An absolute highlight was hearing the nightjars in the heath nearby. Lovely campsite.

Local attractions

From the campsite, you can ramble through the forest to the Fountain of Saint John (25 minutes’ walk), reputed to have miraculous properties, and a popular stop on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Carry on with your stroll to sleepy Lesperon village (35 minutes), where any cyclists can join the Piste du Resinier cycle track leading to the Atlantic coastline. And if a day at the beach is calling, head to the coast for bodyboarding and surfing at Plage de la Lette Blanche, Vielle-Saint-Girons or Cap de l’Homy (all about 25 minutes’ drive), or turn inland for dinghy sailing and swimming from the sandy beach at Lac de Léon. Close by, kids can run off more energy on the rope courses at Parc Accrobranche Là Haut Aventure Park (both 20 minutes). For a spot of urban sightseeing, historic Dax (35 minutes) has an ornate neo-classical cathedral with a fancy Baroque altarpiece to investigate. And after the cultural stuff has been attended to, you can head for one of the town’s many thermal spas for a spot of restorative pampering.
