General

  • Family site within an hour’s drive of Wales’ most notable destinations
  • Half-an-hour from the sands of Aberporth and Tresaith
  • Top spot for clear-skies stargazing

Are you looking for a spiffing mix of activity and relaxation? Roll on up to Trenoeth, a small family-friendly site 25 minutes’ drive from Carmarthen in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, where you’ll be on the go for your entire trip – except for when you’re chilling out in the peace and quiet on site.

Trenoeth is a prime spot for basing yourself for a top-notch Welsh getaway, less than an hour from tons of the major sites and towns – including Cardigan Bay and a handful of theme parks – and around 10 minutes from National Cycle Route 47, which you can pick up in Dinas.

Back on site, you can relax by kicking up your feet or taking a stroll around the wildlife pond, keeping your eyes peeled for kingfishers, herons and woodpeckers, and nesting ducks and geese.

Fire up the barbecue when you’re feeling peckish and load it up with treats from the supermarket 15 minutes away, then chow down next to the campfire. If you’d prefer a break from the cooking, treat yourself to a meal (or two, or three, or … well, you get the message) at one of the restaurants within half an hour of Trenoeth before returning to site for a spot of stargazing – on clear nights, you can expect spectacular views of the Milky Way.

Family were nice, quiet campsite, hot shower, the stars were absolutely breathtaking.

    Disliked:

Such a strong word.... So not necessarily disliked just could have been better, the campsite is down a really bumpy road...it popped our tyre off the rim and we had to change it roadside on a single track country lane... The chickens are free roaming and got into our tent knocking things over and spilling oil all over the ground sheet....the campsite is not lit up so it's very dark at night, Its a very remote location and a good 20 minutes from a main road so confident driving is a must... Its 40 mins from a superstore, there was no signal at all for us not even on the bench.... The WiFi worked ok for the last 2 nights of our stay but it was 2 days into our stay when we got a password. Lastly hot water at the washing up station is needed, the water is bitingly cold.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments, I feel obliged to reply to this...

We have a bumpy track ( we are a farm) in 8 years of living here , with daily journeys up and down I have never had a tyre come off the trim? If you reduce speed, and are aware of stones then this should never be a problem, Also I believe our prices are reflected on this matter. Supermarkets are 20 minutes away MAX... not 40.

We will not be installing lights to light up campsite as this would spoil the night sky, which is beautiful here with no light pollution.

The chickens can be annoying, I’ll agree there, but generally once someone mentions this to use, we lock them away... we do always say to people “any problems, please let us know” ?

The water heater is something we have decided not to install, as feedback from other campers has always been that it’s not needed... we’ll look again at this.

For future campers... OUR CAMPSITE IS SMALL, SECLUDED AND QUIET and is located in the Welsh Countryside... if you require a strong WiFi signal please choose a different site, Or visit us and see what it’s like disconnecting with the rest of the world and reconnecting with each other 😃

The owners were lovely and had put us in a different area on arrival as they felt the tent pitches were too water logged due to heavy rain. The pitch given was flat and private, I felt this should always be a pitch as it was perfect for a large tent. The stream is lovely. Toilets x 2 are clean and shower hot.

The bumpy road people talk about in reviews is bumpy, but totally fine. To say it scratched someone’s car just cannot be true, it’s just a stony road that is really short, so we are not sure why people have been so extreme about it on these reviews!

    Disliked:

There is WiFi but could not log on as signal too poor. We were fine as happy to be without signal or WiFi, but this would improve the site as it’s useful to research in the evening to plan your next day out.

This place is gorgeous to camp at if you want a calm and quite weekend away. We arrived in the pouring rain and wind and it was so beautiful it didn’t matter! Once set up we could appreciate the site, a beautiful stream with a lovely woodland walk, all the lovely farm animals around and can’t wait to take little ones back there! We had a wonderful time exploring wales and the owners couldn’t do anymore. We had some wood for the fire and toasted marshmallows! Electric hook up worked fine and the toilet and showers were clean and
Hot! It is half an hour from a town or shop but if you pack up for the weekend you should be fine! We didn’t mind as we managed to go and explore! We would recommend the hours drive to Tenby, a lovely coastline and town.

    Disliked:

We didn’t dislike anything as that is such a strong word but one thing we would say and that is no fault to the owners, as it has rained for the past week our pitch we needed to put our tent on was very muddy so we had to go on a slight hill to gain grass but it was still on our pitch as the spaces were huge! The bumpy drive way was something that you need to tackle but it is a farm! Plus the signal would be intermittent but my fiance and I loved not having phones about. He wasn’t on eBay the whole time! Haha - we could get signal at the top of the drive and the owners in the farm house said If there is an emergency then we can use the landline. All in all I don’t have any huge things that we disliked.

Local attractions

If you’re craving some salt air and the smell of the ocean, you won’t have to look too far away: Trenoeth is 35 minutes’ drive from the sandy and sheltered Aberporth beach and Tresaith beach and waterfall, and Newport Bay, Pendine Sands and Saundersfoot are only a little further.

Maybe it’s nature you’re craving? Within 45 minutes of Trenoeth, take a boat trip into Cardigan Bay for some dolphin spotting, explore Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and stroll the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

History buffs will be well served in the area around the site: Cilgerran and Kidwelly castles, Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, the Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber portal dolmen and the steam trains at Gwilli Railway are all less than 45 minutes away.

Trenoeth is toppers if you’ve got kids with you – not only are the beaches relatively close by, but the West Wales Museum of Childhood is just 20 minutes up the road, and Manor House Wildlife Park and Oakwood, Heatherton and Folly Farm theme parks are all less than an hour from site.

Older heads who might like to have a more grownup adventure should pour themselves into the car and tip over to Dà Mhìle Distillery for a (pre-booked) tour and a sampling of the artisan gin, whisky and liquors they make on-site.
