General

  • Peaceful Llyn Peninsula site on the corner of Porth Neigwl surf beach
  • On the Wales Coast Path and 15 minutes’ drive to Abersoch
  • A 20-minute drive from the northern beaches of Porthor, Porth Iago

It may sit at the corner of a beach that translates from Welsh into 'Hell’s Mouth', but guests tend to reckon Treheli Farm Campsite is definitely on the heavenly side… and with its sweeping views out over the water from a setting on a flat ledge a few hundred feet above sea level, it's hard not to agree.

Stretching on for four miles, Porth Neigwl is the fab beach in question, a firm fave of surfers for wave conditions the park's owners claim are ‘truly delinquent’. And even if you're not up for getting thrown about in the water, this sandy stretch of shoreline on the stunning Llyn Peninsula is also a sublime spot for sunbathers as it's sheltered from southwesterly winds.

Spend days down on this lush bay rockpooling, racing about and rushing into the water before puffing back up the hill to catch the sun going down from a prime position... right on the edge of this hillside site where it's more about peace and quiet than mod cons.

Treheli is also well placed for touring the Llyn Peninsula and the rest of Gwynedd: from the site you can go off on seaside roams along a trail that’s part of the Wales Coast Path running around the whole of the country.

If strolling isn’t your main activity of choice, Abersoch is a 15-minute drive for surf rental shops and a sailing school with powerboating, paddleboarding, kayaking and yachting; this busy resort is also where to wander for international food with noshing spots ranging from Thai restaurants to Welsh delis.

The location is simply beautiful. It is right on the edge of the beach, although you do need to be very able bodied to access the beach. The site was quiet when we stayed. The manager was very friendly, helpful and chilled out. It was great for chilling out, going to the beach. The whole site and beach is dog friendly. The toilets & showers were clean and modern, a second shower would be useful but it was fine whilst we were there as it was quiet, the washing up area had loads of really hot water too and was well thought out.
    We would definitely go back.
It was perfect for star gazing, although a little windy a times. A lovely little back to basics site.

Perfect location, beautiful views of Hell’s Mouth Bay.

Facilities are simple but clean and well kept. Any small que for the loo was worth it for the location.

Apart from the stunning view the best part of the campsite was the owner. Running up and down the site on his quad throughout the day he was always checking we were happy and safe in the high winds we experienced while we were camping. He’s an honest bloke and we will definitely going back.

    Disliked:

Not a criticism as it suited us perfectly but I wouldn’t recommend this to large families with big tents. The location is open to the wind and tents need to be well pegged down. Great however for the more experienced camper who wants a stunning view and plenty to explore around the peninsula.

Beautiful site, clean, tidy, friendly warden who came round with logs each evening. Basic amenities meant it was ‘proper’ camping in the middle of nowhere under darkness so we could appreciate the night sky. Please don’t come if you expect luxury, heated shower blocks etc. Leave it for those of us that are happy to wash up in the open air, scramble down uneven cliff paths to beaches and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. Lovely site which, now we have discovered it, we will frequent!

The grounds are well kept, the location is extremely unique and worth the fees alone. Showers and toilets well kept, and seem recently done.
The spaciousness of the site, with the limit on pitches available mean its roomy and not crowded, the lack of hook ups also means this is a nice retreat.
Seems like an unspoilt area of the world and is well worth escaping to.
No manned check in and lack of signage means this place feels like actual camping rather than some over zealous campsite owners idea of camping. The manager comes round on an off road buggy to check you've paid, otherwise you are left to it. Very friendly and dog friendly.

Local attractions

While you might want to stick to swanning about Porth Neigwl for the whole of your hol in north Wales, other beaches on the Llyn Peninsula are also top for touring: try the curvy bay of Porthor (also known as Whistling Sands) a 20-minute drive away and pretty Porth Iago cove (20 minutes) on the northern coast for starters before driving eastwards to cute and compact Criccieth for its castle ruins and memorable views out over the coast.

You can also steer away from the water towards Glasfryn Parc in the lush green hinterlands for bowling, wakeboarding, archery and a soft play area to suit smaller small sorts or drive 35 minutes to Yr Eifl carpark for family walks up to the peninsula’s highest peak.

Older travellers – not to mention Italy aficionados – will appreciate visits to Portmeirion a 50-minute drive away for a Positano-style village built over the course of 50 years by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis full of colourful houses and posh eateries.

Must see

  • Criccieth Castle (27.6 kilometres)
  • CADW - Harlech Castle (34.2 kilometres)
  • Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) (34.4 kilometres)
