  • Small and friendly touring site on a Llŷn Peninsula farm
  • Abersoch 20 minutes' walk; 15 minutes' drive to Pwllheli
  • Well-kept serviced touring pitches; dogs welcome
Family-friendly and family-run Sandy Farm is a small site that prides itself on providing the personal touch for guests – aiming for that real 'home from home’ vibe. The surf-loving owners are keen to introduce their guests to the very best of the Llŷn Peninsula, sharing their tips on how to make the most of the area’s outdoor activities, history and culture. This sweet little farm site is less than a mile from Abersoch, so you'll be able to walk to the village centre in around 20 minutes. The bigger town of Pwllheli, a popular watersports hub, is about 15 minutes’ drive away and the excellent surf beach Porth Neigwl is about five minutes away. You should find plenty of things to pack your days around the local area – so it’s good to know that you'll be coming back to a place where a lot of thought and effort has gone into designing the facilities. A smart modern bathroom block has four separate spacious bathrooms (one of which is accessible), each one with a toilet and hot shower, and the communal laundry/washing-up area has all the bits you'll need to keep your clothes and your crockery nice and clean. The pitches themselves have been just as well thought out: each one is made up of a spacious hardcore area surrounded with a grass patch, and has an electric hookup and grey waste facility. The site also has a wifi service to help you plan your outings and share pics of your lovely surroundings with the folk left back at home.

Local attractions

Abersoch (20 minutes' walk/three minutes' drive) is best known as a seaside village, so your first port of call should probably be its beach – it's a lovely sheltered sandy stretch that’s great for family days of paddling, picnicking and sandcastle building. Pwllheli (15 minutes' drive) also has a sandy beach, along with plenty of watersports options, and there’s fairly reliable surf at Porth Neigwl (five minutes). This part of Wales is particularly well served with castles, so take your pick from seafront Criccieth Castle (half an hour), imposing Caernarfon Castle (45 minutes) and Harlech Castle (55 minutes), site of the longest siege in British history. The Italian-style village of Portmeirion (45 minutes) is worth a trip too. There are lots of places to get out for a walk or bike ride near the farm, taking in seaside views and historic sites. If that's not enough, head east to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park (45 minutes) for all manner of hiking trails and outdoor activities.

What customers say

Spacious, neat campsite near Abersoch town/beach. Friendly owners, clean modern facilities (showers great!). Generally quiet, though road noise noted by some. WiFi iffy. Toilet paper/shower costs mentioned; manager responsive.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The site is level and nicely landscaped. There is a small field with some goal posts and goats in a pen. Each pitch is fully serviced although it took me a while to work out how to switch on the hook up points. It’s a relatively short walk into Abersoch which has plenty of nice shops, pubs and restaurants. Communications before arrival were friendly and informative.

Disliked It’s a very small site next to a road, so can get a bit noisy. The walk into Abersoch is along a road that can get busy and there aren’t many pavements so not great for kids and dogs. We didn’t see anyone managing the site until we were about to leave, although they were very responsive when messaged.
The shop/ office appeared to be closed for the entire weekend, although maybe we missed it opening when we were out.

There weren’t enough toilets and one of them appeared to be locked all the time. Loo roll was always in short supply although we found extra stocks in the laundry room. There is only one sink for washing up. The toilets/sinks didn’t appear to get cleaned during our stay.

The ground is gravel which isn’t great for awnings, but pegs went in fine.
Pitches are quite small, enough for our van and awning, but it felt like we were very close to our neighbours.
The showers were fine, but you have to use 20ps. WiFi signal was very poor so we used our own data.
Given the price of our stay we expected more.
