General

  • Spectacularly scenic rural site in Snowdonia National Park
  • Adventure caves, treetop adventure park and watersports nearby
  • Huge 1,600-metre karting circuit

If you're into karting, zoom over to Glan Y Gors Park sharpish: with one of the UK's largest Motor Sports Association-approved karting circuits, this is quite possibly going to be the park of all your petrol-themed dreams.

And apart from the world-class karting, there are plenty more reasons to stick around here for quite some time: treetop adventuring, extreme caving, paintballing, fishing, whitewater rafting and canyoning opps, plus miles of coastline and a whole heap of wild walking trails and lakes that lie around the local area.

This spectacularly scenic site is set in a peaceful rural location just outside Snowdonia National Park and guarantees excellent facilities for a wild camping retreat deep in Conwy countryside; and what Glan Y Gors guests enthuse the most about after their stay here is the team's excellent and friendly customer service and the utterly handsome views from the park's 1,600-metre track.

Another thing that gets a rave review here is the food: to keep you sufficiently fuelled throughout your stay, the GYG team will serve you breakfast, lunch, homemade cream teas and dinner at the on-site eatery – and if you're venturing out for the day, you can pre-order your packed lunches too. For meals off site, there are plenty of country restaurants and pubs close by that your cordial hosts will be more than happy to point you towards.

Among the amenities are a sparklingly clean accessible sanitary block with toilets, hot showers and a baby changing room. Free wifi is available in the café.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

If you are arriving between 5pm - 9pm, please pick a pitch and see reception the next morning.

Outside reception opening hours, guest are welcome to use the 24-hour toilets located in the main car park.

I am happy to hear you visited some of the attractions.

Sorry to hear you didn't have the opportunity to use our free wifi but who needs wifi in such a beautiful location when there is plenty to see and do.

The site was quiet in terms of tents.
The staff were fantastic, welcoming and accommodating

    Disliked:

Lots of rocks underground which made placing tent pegs tricky.
    There’s no washing up facilities.
Noisy go karting most the day but I didn’t realise that was there until we got there.
There’s a lot of concrete piled up and the area next to it is very boggy so not overly child friendly.

From the manager...

Good Morning,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to review the site :-)

It is nice to hear you found the facilities well maintained and the staff were fantastic, welcoming and accommodating.

All of your feedback is extremely important to us. I completed a site review this morning to ensure we offer the best camping experience.

I do apologise, we don't advertise we have washing up facilities. How ever we are more than happy to provide you with hot water to wash up :-)

Your access onsite is to the camping greenery only. The concerted area is off the greenery and is part of the access road that is being maintained. I do strongly agree this is not child friendly, the area is clearly marked off now for you.

The greenery is very spacious, I would recommend pitching slightly in to the greenery to avoid pitching on any rocky areas you might have come across. I will have the site checked for you first thing to avoid this in the future.

North Wales does have high levels of rain fall and the site can appear wet at times, mother nature isn't always on our side.

Pitchup do advertise that the camp site is next to one of the largest Karting Circuits in the UK.
"If you're into karting, zoom over to Glan Y Gors Park sharpish: with one of the UK's largest Motor Sports Association-approved karting circuits, this is quite possibly going to be the park of all your petrol-themed dreams."

I would recommend for future bookings you read the site information just to ensure you are aware of the facilities and attractions onsite so you are not disappointed when you arrive.

Thank you for visting and we hope you enjoyed your North Wales adventure experience :-)

Arrived at Glan Y Gors park around 2.00pm . Easy book in and a quick explanation on where to pitch the tent and where the toilets and showers were situated and then left alone to find where we wanted to pitch up.
We did not use the café on site but it did look clean. Toilets kept clean. ( which on a camp site is no mean fete for the cleaners.). Well done on cleanliness.
    Nice quiet location.

    Disliked:

Main office is closed by 5.00pm until 8.00am ,so nearest toilet is at the bottom of the dirt track which is unlit at night.
Other than this there is nothing to dislike .

    Disliked:

the distance i had to walk to the out of hours toilet due to having 3 children and each of them always needing it at separate times haha and they could have done with a little clean. you also need to remember to take your own toilet roll in there with you as it runs out a lot and the VERY early cocka doodle doo but at the same time it was nice to wake up to just wish he would maybe wait an extra hour or so haha

From the manager...

Good Morning,

It was lovely to meet you and the family. Thank you kindly for your lovely review. It was nice to hear you enjoyed North Wales and it's beautiful locations.

I do extremely apologise about the evening toilets. The young girls clean them morning and evening. I will be monitoring their hygiene levels and ensuring they are cleaned to a high standard.

We are currently in the process of applying for planning for new evening toilets, showers and kitchen facilities near to the camping greenery, fingers crossed.

We shall look forward to seeing you next season.

Local attractions

From Glan Y Gors you can quite easily explore the hills above Harlech and the lanes over to Llandudno. The site is also just under six miles from Llyn Brenig and Alwen Reservoirs and a mere eight miles from Clocanog Forest, which means that land- and water-based opps including boating, fishing, wildlife watching, cycling and gentle forest and waterside strolls are well sorted. Bala Lake, around 20 minutes' drive away, adds whitewater rafting and sailing to that already extensive list of activity options.

Another popular local attraction is the photogenic village of Betws-y-Coed, less than 12 miles away; stop at Miners' Bridge for a photo opp, watch the tiny trains chug around really small rails at the Conwy Valley Railway Museum and park up for a picnic at Pont-y-Pair Falls. The forests surrounding the village are crisscrossed by a network of walking and mountain biking trails too, so you can make a good day of it with a visit here.

If you're feeling a little more adventurous, head to the world’s biggest inland wave lagoon at Surf Snowdonia, 20 miles away, or try free falling, plummeting, ziplining and swinging at ZipWorld fForest treetop adventure park in Betws-y-Coed. Right next to this are two pretty special underground adventure attractions: Bounce Below, an underground trampoline park in the old slate caverns, and Go Below, where brave contenders journey through a mountain via a series of challenges ranging from zip-lining through caverns to climbing up vertical shafts, boating across a subterranean lake, traversing an abyss and abseiling down to the deepest point in the UK.
