Welsh sea or Welsh mountain? Have borth, sorry, both with a stay at Borth in Ceredigion, as it's not only a coastal town and a stop on the cracking Ceredigion Coast Path, but has views over (also cracking) Cardigan Bay as well as Cader Idris and the Cambrian Mountains. Among all this scenery and well set up as a west Wales exploration base is Brynrodyn Caravan and Leisure Park: sea and mountain views of all these surrounds come along here as standard, natch, along with a family-friendly vibe and a good range of facilities including a games room and a fitness room. The site also dishes up meals, and takeaway at its clubhouse, along with drinks including house specials, cocktails, champers, wine and sups for the kids. And yes, sea and mountain views are here from its balcony too… Other amenities on site include a shower and toilet block, a washing-up area and a launderette.

Local attractions

Brynrodyn Caravan and Leisure Park is in such a tiptop location of west Wales: right by seaside town Borth, five minutes' drive from Aberaeron, near the River Dovey, the Cambrian Mountains and Snowdonia, and only a couple of hours from packed city days out in Cardiff, Liverpool or Manchester. A 15-minute drive away is most excellent Aberystwyth (Bill Bryson's fave seaside town, travel book types), the Victorian seaside resort between hills and beach and with harbour, castle and the spectacular Aberystwyth Cliff Railway up to eye-watering views of Cardigan Bay at the top of Constitution Hill. (Yes, you do have to come down and get back to the real world eventually. Bah.) Jetskiing, boating, fishing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are among the watery options available at nearby Cardigan Bay; on land, wildlife watch and tramp the Ceredigion Coast Path or the three-mile beach at Borth (the longest in the county), or take your mountain bike hair-raisingly down the three nearby trails of Cadair Idris.
