Set on the banks of the River Lochay and with spectacular views to peaks like Ben Lawers, Maragowan Killin Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is a family-friendly spot with spacious pitches and a bunch of activities available nearby. You can go mountain biking (rental is available in Killin, five minutes’ walk) on woodland tracks, play golf, go hill walking, and try kayaking or fishing on Loch Tay – all within 15 minutes’ drive. This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to non-members as well as members, with discounted rates for members. The price displayed is the member rate; non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or buy a £69 membership. Membership is worth considering if you’re likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site over the coming year – it brings discounts at more than 140 UK sites, plus other perks including access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. As befits a Club site, the facilities here have been well thought out – for a start, families certainly appreciate the play area, the ice creams sold at reception, and the books, DVDs and games available to borrow from the information hut. The modern shower block is home to toddler-and-baby rooms, disabled amenities, a laundry room and washing-up sinks. There are also washing areas dedicated to dogs and bikes.

The site is on the right of the A827 (Killin-Kenmore), 0.5 miles past the end of the village. Please note: the site is just off the main road. Do not turn into Pier Road, which is unsuitable for caravans or motorhomes.

Your Scottish adventures might start with a stroll to the stunning Falls of Dochart, just 15 minutes away on foot through the village of Killin, where you can also browse shops, visit the ruins of Finlarig Castle and sink a pint of heavy in several pubs. It’s also 20 minutes’ walk to the prehistoric Kinnell Stone Circle, which you can reach across Dochart Viaduct (15 minutes on foot). Killin sits on the scenic and looped Heart 200 touring route, which you can drive or pedal – cyclists can link in with National Cycle Route 7, which follows traffic-free trails all the way to Inverness. Another option for bikers and hikers is the Rob Roy Way, which follows a disused railway line to Killin through Glen Ogle forests. Golfers can play the scenic nine-hole course at Killin Golf Club (10 minutes’ walk), while there are Loch Tay watersports centres at Kenmore (25 minutes’ drive) and Lochearnhead (15 minutes). The latter is the gateway to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park (15 minutes), where you can knock a few Munros and Corbetts off your bucket list, or take a step back in time and drift across Loch Katrine on the steamer ‘Sir Walter Scott’.
