General

  • 50-acre site in the grounds of a Georgian mansion
  • Spectacular views towards the Venlaw hills
  • Bar with entertainment at peak times; TV room and playground

Peeps – and pooches – you should come to Peebles. As it's a sure bet you'll find something to feast your peepholes on round these parts, whether that’s the 50 miles of mountain bike trails at Glentress Forest, piles of lovely wares in town – Peebles was named Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland – or the artsy attractions and several festivals.

Nearby River Tweed is internationally famous for salmon fishing too: the Peebles town motto and crest even has three salmon a-leaping up the water. All in all, rather fab.

Right on the edge of Peebles to also feast your eyes on is Rosetta Holiday Park, an attentively manicured family and dog-friendly site set over 50 acres with spectacular views towards the Venlaw Hills.

The park is in grounds surrounding a Georgian mansion and includes an old stable block converted into the Hayloft Bar; ask at reception for current opening times. There's also free evening entertainment including karaoke at weekends, and the stables building also has a TV room with a few games to keep the family occupied.

Outdoors, there’s a playground for the kids to swing, slide and climb around; additional facilities include a launderette and an amenities block with handy touches such as shaving points and a baby changing area.

(Please note that the bar is closed on weekdays and entertainment is minimal outside high season.)

Holiday was cancelled by Rosetta Park some weeks ago.
I had no notification regarding the cancellation except seeing a refund of the Rosetta Parks element of the payment on my credit card statement.
Otherwise nothing from them or you.
Despite asking several times, I have not yet had a refund of my deposit paid to Pitch-up and would like that organising very quickly.

The beauty of the site and the location. Clean toilet blocks and friendly staff. As we were here out of season the entertainment facilities were not up and running yet, so can't comment on them, but we enjoyed a peaceful walk and a visit to Peebles which is a pleasant walk away. We were allowed to choose our own pitch.

Very few people around (our stay was October half term), so a lovely peaceful stay with good facilities all nearby. Lovely and close to Peebles too, which is a lovely town for a walk around

    Disliked:

Pitches seemed a little close together so if fully booked it might be a bit cramped

Lovely site with large touring pitched

    Disliked:

Toilet( the lack of) were very disappointing, two blocks with two showers and two toilets for such a large site is totally inadequate and they could do with being a major revamp.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, It seems you are somewhat mistaken with your count of our toilet blocks.
Yes there are two blocks at the bottom of the park, But given that the time you were here there was very few other guests on the park your gripe about the amount of toilets seems a bit odd.
There are actually 3 toilets per block down at the bottom and more at the top in the courtyard.
We are aware they are dated, But they are clean, warm and have hot water, there is no timer on the showers as some other parks, And are fully functioning amenities blocks.
Thank you for your observations, even though they are misleading to our potential guests.

    Disliked:

Small annoying things - Games room only has a pool table, no other games for kids. In the bar you have to pay £2 deposit to get pool cues and £1 for pool per game. TV in bar was blaring out bad music..no jukebox. Menu could be a bit more inventive, mostly burgers, WiFi wasn't working.

Local attractions

One of the many highlights of the Scottish Borders is that, while the region is rightly popular with savvy holidaymakers, it remains off the mass tourist track so you can gleefully pursue your pastimes without areas becoming overcrowded.

Fishing is one of the most popular pursuits in the area is because of Peebles’ proximity to the River Tweed, on the top scale of salmon fishing rivers in the world. Go out on your own with your rod licence or bag a trip/course from one of the many local angling centres nearby; the Tweed and its tributaries yield wild trout and grayling too. Elsewhere in the area, anglers have acres of lochs for coarse fishing and the Berwickshire coast nearby for sea angling – and views – off Eyemouth, Burmouth and St Abbs.

The mountain bike trails of Glentress Forest, three miles away, are another big draw for active visitors – the Tweed Bike Festival is held here in May and June and Glentress/Innerleithen are part of the world famous 7stanes mountain biking trails. The award-winning centre at Glentress has trails of all grades and a most modern visitor centre with bike wash, bike hire and a bike shop.

The Tweed Love Bike Festival is held at Peebles in early summer, but if you miss it/aren’t a mountain biker, several other festivals cover several other tastes such as arts, jazz, food, Highland Games, Rugby Sevens and the traditional week-long Beltane Festival.

Dramatic highlights like shows at the Eastgate can be had at any time of the year, as can sampling fresh local produce in the town’s hotels and restaurants, park and river walks by the Tweed and the prerequisite till-ringing at the Old Town and School Brae.

As well as Peebles, the Borders has plenty of other characterful towns to seek out such as Selkirk, Jedburgh, Galashiels and the Borders’ biggest town Hawick; those looking for even brighter lights can make their way to Edinburgh, just 20 miles away.

Must see

  • Royal Scottish Academy (31.8 kilometres)
