  • Peaceful family-run park in a handy location on the edge of Kinross
  • Loch Leven 10 minutes’ drive, and Perth city centre 20 minutes
  • Play park and communal bothy on site, plus a woodland dog-walking area
Now here’s a handy location indeed for seeing lots of Scottish sights all in one break – Gallowhill Camping and Caravan Park is on the edge of Kinross, an excellent Perthshire spot for getting out to explore the likes of Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews and Perth. In fact, the park is pretty much in the centre of the area bounded by these four cities, with none of them more than an hour’s drive away. The M90 (running north-south) and A91 (east-west) are both close by, so journeys should be fairly straightforward – and the proximity of the roads also makes this a useful park to consider if you need a stopover on a longer journey. Having Kinross town centre just down the road (about 20 minutes’ walk/five minutes’ drive) means that you can easily use the park-and-ride services to travel around without driving, and there are plenty of amenities close by, including supermarkets, takeaways and places to eat out. Loch Leven is 10 minutes’ drive away for fishing and walks/bike rides on the 13-mile lakeside trail. It’s not just a handy location for travel, though – the park itself is well set up too, with facilities including a play park and an area for football. There’s also a bothy (good for hunkering down in wet weather) with tourist info, kettle, microwave and phone charger points. Laundry facilities are provided as well, along with toilets, showers and a separate accessible bathroom. Dogs are welcome at Gallowhill, and there’s a private woodland exercise area where they can have a good run about.

What customers say

Spacious, well-kept site with friendly staff & good facilities. Great for exploring Kinross/Loch Leven. Clean & good value, though showers are dated/paid. M90 proximity means some traffic noise.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Big Al was great, very friendly and helpful.
Campers Bothy was a great idea with microwave, kettle etc for guests to use
Clean, Tidy and Quiet site.
Lovely small playground and sandpit
Funky toilet seats!!

Disliked Showers (if guests didnt follow instructions) would leave the shower temperature for the next person too hot to go in (and therefore loss of £1) Al was great fixing the issue and making sure we had a good (but not too hot) shower.

Liked A very laid back, friendly campsite. We loved having a little (off the ground) campfire to toast our marshmallow. Friendly warden, Alan.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked I loved this site. The way all of the pitches faced towards the children’s play area made it easier to keep an eye on kids so my son was able to be out all evening making new friends.

Lovely staff, all motorhome needs catered for and clean facilities.

Disliked I’d prefer not to pay for showers.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Good location, electricity included in the price.

Disliked The owners deserve credit for investing in a new children's play facilities, but it would have been nice to see some additional items ie slide and climbing frames.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked -

Disliked - Bathrooms were disgustingly dirty and smelled bad.
- They charge you 1 pound to get a “6 minute shower” that we timed and it’s actually 4:30 mins. Also if someone has left some water and you put a pound, you’ll lose the pound.

- the pitches were too close to each other.

- 10 pm kids were still playing around screaming.

- other people had the vehicles on the grass but we were told to move our van because the wheel was touching the grass a little bit.

From the manager: Hi.
I am really sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Gallowhill, we are a family friendly run caravan site. We have staff who pride themselves cleaning the toilet block and the park, we are proud that we do not have many complaints. Our showers are £1 because of all the electricity and water increases that have put a burden on all small companies in the UK. If you were unhappy about anything we would have happily addressed and rectified your concerns at the time of your visit.

Regards

Fiona

Local attractions

Get to know Perth (20 minutes’ drive) on a self-guided Treasure Hunt Trail, or head further afield to the historic university town of St Andrews (50 minutes), which pulls in visitors to explore the cathedral and castle, or play golf on the fabled Old Course. When big-city lights come calling, head for the museums, art galleries and upscale shops of Edinburgh (55 minutes). You’ll be in pole position to learn something of Scottish history at Gallowhill; Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in foreboding waterside Lochleven Castle (10 minutes) in 1567, while Scone Palace (half an hour) was once the crowning place of Scottish kings and is now open for guided tours of lush interiors. Former home of King James IV, Stirling Castle (45 minutes) has an ornate Great Hall restored to its 16th-century splendour and interactive displays in its Victorian-era kitchens. If you’re rather potter about in the fresh air, stride across Fife hillsides in Lomond Hills Regional Park (25 minutes), or try archery and axe-throwing at Kinross Activity Centre (10 minutes). Keen on wildlife? You can often see red squirrels near the visitor centre at RSPB Loch Leven (10 minutes).
