  • Cosy dog-friendly glamping site in remote Perthshire
  • A five-minute drive to Amulree for the Loch Freuchie Circuit
  • Walks around the estate’s hills and in the Amulree area
Calling upon pretty Perthshire for a spot of Munro bagging and activities like off-road biking, canoeing, walking and sipping on Scottish whisky? No need to keep rummaging around for a cosy glamping site. Corriemuckloch Unique Huts is dog-friendly glamping site in what the owners dub as ‘the middle of nowhere but central to everywhere’. They’re quite accurate there; this remote Perthshire location is highly peaceful, but well within driving distance of Scottish distilleries, lochs, munros and golf courses. There’s horse-riding 15 minutes’ drive away, sky diving 25 minutes’ drive away and a whole host of other activities within driving distance (think fishing, clay pigeon shooting, microlight flying and cycling). Walking’s a treat here too. You’re always welcome to walk on the estate’s hills (on the paths and in a safe and responsible manner, of course, and with any dogs on a lead so as not to disturb the wildlife). There are many more pleasant-as trails from Amulree (five minutes’ drive), like the Loch Freuchie circuit and a route from Amulree to Aberfeldy. With a title like ‘the gateway to the Highlands’, Pertshire has got to have a splendid hill or two for munro bagging (in other words, climbing a Scottish mountain higher than 3000 feet). That’d be correct… local munros include the Schiehallion (45 minutes’ drive), hills in the Ben Lawers range like Meall a’Choire Leith (around an hour) and Crianlarich Munros like An Caisteal (an hour and a half). For those energy-boosting snacks you’re sure to want while sitting at the top of the hill, there are shops within 20 minutes’ drive of Corriemuckloch Unique Huts.

Glad Ewe Came shepherd's hut (pet friendly)

Liked This was an absolute gem of a place to stay. The hut was clean and a breath of fresh air. Bonus points for a lovely loaf of bread and eggs as well as fridge and cupboard contents. Theresa was a fabulous host and was there for any problems as we had no hot water however this was quickly fixed. This place is perfect for those who need a mental health break and watching the sheep going about their day was even better.

Disliked Nothing to dislike at all.

From the manager: Such lovely kind words thank you Rebecca, glad you loved it as much as we do.

Glad Ewe Came shepherd's hut (pet friendly)

Liked We had an excellent stay, the hut is clean and has everything you could possibly need for a weekend break. The owners had even bought eggs, milk and bread for us which was a lovely surprise. The hut was cold when we got there but the fireplace (bioethanol) was easy to use and warmed the place up quickly.

Waking up in the middle of nowhere and only hearing the sheep was so peaceful. We would definitely stay again!

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Riikka. I am so happy that you loved our hut as much as we do, you are most welcome to come back anytime.

Theresa

Local attractions

Those wanting to take in a little history might want to start by ticking off Scottish castles like Elcho Castle (50 minutes’ drive), Huntingtower Castle (half an hour) and Lochleven Castle (an hour). The Hermitage (25 minutes) has walks through old, tall Douglas Firs – a unique walking setting indeed, in what was once an 18th-century pleasure ground. If outdoor activities are top of your priorities, skip on over to Loch Freuchie (from 10 minutes), for a spot of paddleboarding or kayaking. There are off-road activities in the Dunkeld (20 minutes) area and canoeing and whitewater rafting adventures from Aberfeldy (20 minutes). After all that, you might want to brush up on your knowledge of Scottish whisky. The Blair Athol Distillery (half an hour) is one of many distilleries within driving distance of the site. If you’re not quite done exploring, perhaps a water safari on Loch Tay (half an hour) or a wildlife centre like Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre( 35 minutes) might tempt you.
