Bothy camping pod

Liked I didn't like it

Disliked I didn’t like it.
I stayed here last year and it was very good, but this last time it was really bad.
The price is higher than a hotel, and on top of that they want to charge extra for everything.
Want towels? Pay extra.
Want bed sheets? Pay extra.
Want glasses or plates in the kitchen? Pay extra.
It’s ridiculous.
And on top of that, it’s not comfortable at all if you book a family option (they only give you a sofa bed and mattresses on the floor).
Next time, I’ll go to a hotel: cheaper and much more complete.

Bothy camping pod

Liked Clean, lovely bothy, very neat and clean site. Stunning shower blocks with plenty of amenities. Adored the little dog walk that circled the site.
The site feels very modern and updated.

The closeness to the park and ride for getting into Edinburgh was brilliant, but also for heading off elsewhere it’s a great location.

Highly recommend and I’d stay again

Disliked The outside pot wash area can be tricky when the wind is high as I nearly lost some plates in the process of drying up.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Friendly welcome from staff. You wait at reception and someone in a buggy takes you to your pitch. The park is spotless and the facilities are 1st class. A short walk to the main road where we got the bus into Edinburgh. I would definitely stay here again.

Disliked This was our first time at the site. We were put into a small hedged area with room for about 6 family sized tents.
After exploring the camp site I’d rather have been in a different area. Felt a wee bit out of it.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (large)

Liked Helpful staff, well kept facilities and beautiful site. Close to many attractions and easy access into Edinburgh and surrounding areas.

Disliked It’s a lively park, found it difficult to sleep for noise at times, for example someone had music playing well after midnight.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (backpacker, solo, no cars)

Liked Super Infrastruktur, sehr netter Empfang

Disliked Der Zeltplatz hatte wenig Gras und mehrere Erdflecke, was bei Regen unangenehm war.
Kann aber nur für eine Wiese beurteilen, da ich die anderen nicht gesehen habe

Bothy camping pod (no private bathroom amenities)

Liked Stayed in Bothy with no toilet. POD was excellent. Plenty of space for family of 4. Lovely and quiet. Play area was really good too and would have used it more if the weather was better. Shower/toilet block was spotless and not too far to walk. Friendly staff. Well placed for bus to Edinburgh. We loved it.

Disliked Honestly can’t think of any negatives!

Local attractions

The local bus to the festival city of Edinburgh (25 minutes' drive) runs every 10 minutes during the day, every 20 minutes in the evenings, and every hour at night; the journey takes about 40 minutes. The train from Wallyford runs every hour and takes 10 minutes. There are numerous things to see and do in excellent Edinburgh, but if you're only spending one or two days there, recommended options are the castle, Holyrood Palace, the National Museum of Scotland and the zoo (which has first-class views of the city). Elsewhere, Drummohr's location makes it easy to get to all types of days out around the coast and countryside: golf courses, historic houses and stately homes. The Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum (five minutes) has free entry and is a few minutes' walk from the park. Musselburgh (also five minutes) has a lovely walk along the John Muir Way. Other recommended trips nearby include Tantallon Castle (35 minutes) on its headland overlooking the Firth of Forth, trailing nature in John Muir Country Park (25 minutes) or the Lammermuir Hills (40 minutes), an afternoon among the gardens at Tyninghame House (25 minutes), or taking a boat ride around Bass Rock (half an hour to the North Berwick ferry) to see the gannet colony. If the Bass Rock boat ride gets you pondering more about the winged life of the area, the Scottish Seabird Centre is also in pretty seaside North Berwick. At nearby Dunbar (25 minutes), about 60 breeding pairs of kittiwakes are found near the harbour, and nearby East Links Family Park is child-friendly.
