    Disliked:

Toilet block was tired and smelly. Showers were very basic. The water was strong and hot and in the family rooms there were two shower heads per cubicle.

Recycling facilities didn't seem adequate for numbers on the site. A small glass dumpster and several larger ones for mixed recycling but being used for general rubbish which defeated the objective.

Signage to the pitches wasn't great and the check in process a bit confusing - voicemails suggesting one thing. Actual arrival requiring another.

    Unknown!

We had originally booked this site as part of a touring trip visiting several sites on the 19th of June (All monies taken out of my account on the 26th June)
However, as we were cancelled by Verdent Leisure with little notice, I am unable to make any comments about this site.

We were given a phone call at 18:15 the evening before arrival informing us that there was an error claiming they hadn't received the details from Pitch-up...
Even though all monies had been taken and confirmation E-mails sent.

However, we are still quite a bit of money out of pocket as this site had been part of a tour, staying at 2 seperate sites taking in the week.
After spending a day driving through heavy rain, we spent the next two days at our first stop. getting ready to leave for Thurston Manor we received the phone call telling us of THEIR booking error and the cancellation of our stay

That meant I had driven 241 miles one way, lost a weeks holiday and a full tank of diesel for just 2- yes, TWO nights break.

After the phone call we frantically spent the evening trying to find another site to stay, but all that was on offer were too far north or what looked like pub car parks.

Due to Covid19 I have already had 3 holidays cancelled and was really looking forward to this much needed break

    Thank You Verdent Leisure!!!

Reception & organisation. Shower blocks handy and plentiful.

    Disliked:

Bins not emptied, site a little bit untidy around tourers and campers. This was due to other campers and not the site. Felt a little bit like a ‘free for all’. Reception did not explain chemical emptying process and left me stranded in middle of a side road behind shop with grid up into sewer emptying toilet! I then found a chemical loo point behind the shower block! Why was that not pointed out??

The cleanliness of the whole park and amenities was very good. There were plenty of open spaces for the children to play in and the parks dotted around were fun too.
We ate out at the restaurant next to the leisure centre and the meal was great value for money and delicious. The staff in the restaurant were very busy but super attentive. They had a lot to contend with, due to the Covid -19 regulations in place.
Our pitch was large enough for an awning and car, so you weren’t right up against your neighbours when eating at the side of the caravan in the good weather. Level pitch with easy access to water and electricity points. We had bushes located at the rear of our pitch too which gave us privacy.
Central location for the amenities block, cleaned thoroughly and often. Washing room etc all in good working order And again very clean.
We couldn’t comment on the leisure facilities as they were not opened but everything else was well maintained so I would think that would’ve been the same

    We would definitely return

    Disliked:

The little shop was very sparse.

Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond.

Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky.

For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area.

Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee).

Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....

Must see
