  • Cosy, well-equipped cabins in a remote Scottish Highlands location
  • On the NC500 route, 10 minutes' drive from Applecross
  • Self-contained accommodation with kitchen and bathroom
Now, this is a very special location – Applecross Cabins is in a remote and gorgeous spot very close to Scotland’s scenic west coast and along the route of the North Coast 500. This Highland retreat is all about relaxing among spectacular natural surroundings, with each cabin having been designed to a high standard and provided with lots of the essentials you’ll need for a comfortable stay (bed linen and towels included). The cabins are all fully self-contained, with their own bathroom and kitchen, and there’s heating, a sofa and a TV for those cosy nights in. Of course, given the fabulous surroundings, you may well prefer an evening meal (or at least a little drink) out in the open air – and that’s certainly possible as each cabin has its own terrace area with outdoor seating. Pick up supplies at the village store 10 minutes’ drive away, or carry on a little further for a snack, a drink or a meal at the local pub. It’s a top-notch place with splendid sea views, so it’s a popular place – booking ahead is highly recommended. Whether you’re eating out or doing your own dinner, there are lots of great ways to work up an appetite in this area – walks, bike rides, kayaking, fishing and wild swimming are all popular activities. Even the drive here is scenic – you’ll arrive either via the coast road or the Bealach na Bà, a winding mountain pass that holds the title of the steepest ascent in Britain.

Local attractions

It’s all about the wilderness here, with lots of spectacular coastal, woodland and mountain scenery to explore and wildlife to spot (seals, golden eagles and pine martens are among the things you might come across on walks, bike rides or drives nearby). Hardcore mountain bikers can try the mountain pass challenge, but there are also some less challenging routes around. There’s also easy access to the sea nearby for sea fishing, swimming and kayaking (bring your own vessels, or join a guided tour with local experts from Mountain & Sea Guides, 50 minutes’ drive away – they also offer climbing and abseiling challenges). Most of the pleasure in this area comes from simply stumbling upon hidden coves, wandering in the woods and generally just enjoying the outdoor life. If you’d like to tick off a big attraction, though, drive for a little over an hour to reach the Skye Bridge and head over to one of the Highlands’ most popular islands.
