Hornblotton Retreat: Cabin exterior

General

  • Self-contained log cabin in the Somerset countryside near Glastonbury
  • Wookey Hole, Wells and Longleat all within a half-hour drive
  • Private bathroom and kitchen; covered outdoor chillout area

Forgotten the dog bowl? Lacking something to read? Fear not – the owners of Hornblotton Retreat have gone out of their way to provide their cabin with as many handy little touches as they can think of, to take the stress out of packing and lighten your load a little.

That means this lovely little log cabin in the Somerset countryside does indeed have the aforementioned dog bowl along with a dog bed and a pet shower, plus things to keep the kids entertained and a washing machine and dryer should they (or you) get a bit mucky while on your travels.

All the essentials are sorted here too, of course – the cabin has a double bed, a double sofa bed, a kitchenette/diner and a bathroom with shower. Outside there’s a small open patio area (which you can make more private with a screen) and a comfy covered chillout area with a sofa where you can sit and have a chat with the cows (honestly… they live in the next field and may well come over to poke their heads through the open window…)

As befits this location, there’s a bit of a Glastonbury Festival theme going on in the cabin, with posters and other memorabilia adorning the walls and shelves. The festival’s location is, after all, only a few miles up the road and the town itself about 20 minutes’ drive away. Glastonbury may be the main attraction around here but it’s far from the only one – you may also like to take days out at places like Wookey Hole, Wells or Longleat, all of which are within a drive of half an hour or so.

Incredible! The space created both in the cabin and in the covered outdoor area are magical. Hardly roughing it with all the mod cons and details to make your stay a home from home. Relaxing, comfortable and inspirational place. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place locally - or just a new countryside place to visit close to Cheddar Gorge and all the Somerset farms.

Local attractions

One of the handy touches provided in the cabin is a list of local places to visit, so don’t worry too much about planning ahead (or indeed not having enough to do…)

Glastonbury (20 minutes’ drive) should be on the list for sure though – you’ll want to come here to stroll around the town, visit the abbey and climb Glastonbury Tor. Wells (20 minutes) is also worth a visit for its ornate cathedral and pretty old streets. While you’re there you could also stop in at nearby Wookey Hole (25 minutes if you want to go straight there) or continue on to Cheddar (35 minutes) to taste the cheese and visit Cheddar Gorge.

More family days out? How about Fleet Air Arm Museum (15 minutes), Haynes Motor Museum (15 minutes), a safari at Longleat (half an hour) or a day splashing the cash among the outlets at Clarks Village (20 minutes)?

Must see

  • Haynes International Motor Museum (6.6 kilometres)
